The collision was 100% Hamilton's fault IMO. He wasn't in front, it wasn't his corner, he was nowhere near the apex, he knew full well going that shallow into Copse that the front would wash wide. Max gave him a load of room, even steered left.

It was a desperate move because he didn't want to be beaten at home.

You can't also say 'Max turned in on him'. Where was he supposed to go? Just let Lewis past? Come on...

The stewards acknowledged he was at fault hence the penalty. But only 10 seconds, for a collision on an 180mph corner?

And the fans cheering need to take a look at themselves. Young lad flies into a tyre wall at perhaps 140mph at that point and they cheer. Bad taste.

Maybe it wasn't 100% Lewis' fault based on the penalty given? But maybe it was overly aggressive and needed some form of penalty? Max could have backed down as well so that he turned in behind Hamilton, but at 180mph and the pace Lewis had I can see why he went for it.

Same move at the end on Leclerc at the same corner wasn't it? My gut feel on that is that Lewis was trying to prove a point.

I can't agree buddy. It was Max's corner. There's no need for him to back out of it and go in behind Lewis. He gave Lewis loads of room, too. Hamilton, to make that move work, had to be on the inside kerb (which is a risk in itself). But with his experience, he should know that going that shallow into Copse corner at that speed, it won't stick. The front was always going to wash wide which is what happened.
Max was in front, Lewis knew he'd be turning in and taking the line, closing into the apex. Lewis should have backed out. There's been so many penalties for the exact same thing, it's losing control of the car. He just understeered into him.

The entry position against LeClerc was different. And the other pass at that corner, he had that corner already as he was in front.

Copse just isn't a corner you pull that kind of move, when you go in that shallow. When they pull it off they're never that shallow on turn in, as it's just too tight.

Great result for British fans, of course. But fair is fair and it just doesn't sit right with me.

It's not about bias either. Max fortunate after turn one, he kept the position by going off the track. He will have lost some time out there, which might be why stewards let it go.

Lewis probably at fault, but not overly aggressive. Could have easily been him who went off, the way they were going at it.
Fair penalty. Amazing comeback & fantastic scenes at the end. Really enjoyed that.
Feel for Max, though & still think he’ll win the title. :)

You should really start from a 100% impartial position ;)

    Here’s what you said…..

“He lives on another planet. Worst part about it is that he has gone so completely bonkers, he can't see how ridiculous he looks. Like back in the summer when he was posting videos on Twitter, on board his yacht, about the the state of the world's climate and oceans. And how he had "time to reflect, with no phone, no cameras...". Yet he's there posing in a video, on his boat, in some oasis on the other side of the planet, wearing his 10 grand sunglasses.

It's all about attention. He tries to speak and act so prophetically but most people see through it, thankfully.

He came out a couple of weeks ago stating he wants to be part of the Mercedes family forever (which he is the poster boy of... who are also sponsored by a huge oil and gas company). A company with a very chequered history (affiliation with the Nazis etc). Not to mention a company that lied about its emissions, like VW. And what about his 15 supercars? Oh but, Lewis says we must all become vegans.

It's nothing to do with his colour for me. But naturally, any time anyone critisises Lewis, it's because of his skin colour. I'm happy to call out a hypocrite whatever their colour, background etc.

Fernando Alonso said it best when he said F1 drivers take around 200 flights a year, you can't then say "don't eat meat". Unfortunately, meat is cheap for struggling families and is a way of adding protein and nutrition into diets on low budgets.

How do people feel on here about him holding Mercedes to ransom over a new contract? I'm pretty sure Toto Wolf said if Mercedes were to pay Hamilton what he was asking, they'd have to sell infrastructure which would mean a loss of jobs. It just stinks! And in the next breath Lewis is preaching about the inequalities of capitalism... happy to put plenty of commoners out of work though”

And I stand by every word? I don't see why he's not allowed to be criticised. He's not the only one in the F1 paddock either who lives in cuckoo land. The sport in recent years has become very preachy.

I don't have to be biased on the incident today. In my opinion, he was in the wrong. But yes, I dont particularly like him as a person, either. I just don't like multi millionaires preaching to normal hardworking people how they should live but then living their own lives in contrast.

    Well done, you told me.

They were nowhere near the actual apex, it`s racing, each driver has to be careful not to hit the other. About time someone stood up to Verstappen, he bullies his way through, which is what Hamilton was trying to do. Racing incident in my view.

That was 100% Lewis's fault and the kind of mistake that a rookie would make. Or a desperate driver who knew that the person on the outside was likely to come off worse....

That being said I do with the stewards would stop punishing every little thing or at the very least be far more consistent with it.

If lando got a 5 second penalty for that the other week then Lewis deserved a 10 second stop go penalty not just a timed penalty as it was much more serious and more avoidable by an experienced driver.
Then again how did the same stewards decide that sainz didn't need a penalty for yesterday's reckless driving? That one deserved a 5 place grid penalty but went unpunished.

A rookie wouldn’t be going wheel to wheel with the fastest lad on the track. Oh actually, Lewis did, in his first season. Prompting Fernando to quit McClaren. :)

Alex albon did in his rookie year. It happens. And to be honest who the accident is against should be irrelevant.

About time someone put verstappen in his place hope it knocks his confidence a bit it’s normally always him that pulls off these dodgy moves.
When it’s someone else they don,t like it,Hamilton 100% did the right thing same as he admitted after the race!,

That was the most exciting bit of racing for years. I’m glad Max is giving Lewis a proper race. Who really wants another 4 seasons of Seb qualifying on pole & parading the field around for 90 minutes?

Interesting thread this, that says a lot about society and even the BBS.

Verstappen = the Dutch son of a millionaire former F1 driver.

Hamilton = the British son of a normal bloke.

Verstappen is literally the definition of white male privilege, which has been a constant theme on here for as long as I can remember.

Hamilton was picked up as a young 'un because he was and is brilliant. Hamilton and his family have literally given everything for where he is today.

Some of the comments and quoted comments (from historical posts) tell me everything I need to know about many British F1 'fans' that purport to love Max.

The bottom line is this. Hamilton wins with the best car = bad.

White male privilege Max wins with the best car = good.

    The absolute state of people.

PS: racing incident today, not much more. It's a sport.

What has this got to do with what colour skin someone has? The first person to comment about it is you, always 1 that drags it up.

What has today's discussion into a collision got to do with white male privilege? You are reading far too much into it. People are allowed an opinion on an incident without you making such ludicrous leaps.

Also I've said it many times before, Lewis Hamilton is extremely privileged just like all F1 drivers are. Black or white his father had the money (through working damn hard) to give. His son the privilege of racing in karting which costs a lot of money and a lot of time and dedication from his dad and family too. That's a privilege that was not afforded to me and millions of other people despite our skin colours. I had hobbies as a kid that my parents flat out refused to allow me to continue. It wasn't due to money, it was that they didn't want to put the time in to allow me to continue them. Lewis's dad was the opposite. He put in the hours not only at work but at weekends too. Max was also privileged that his dad could likewise afford to do so and wanted to do so. Lando Norris was, Jenson button was etc etc. Every single formula one driver out there had privileges growing up that the vast majority of the population can only dream of. In fact I'd go as far as to say that that's the case in almost all sports, especially those which are less common in schools etc.

But that's not relevant at all to the crash on lap one today. In your head it may be but it isnt

You never saw the hate and boos Vettel got a few years back at every race, then? It's got nothing to do with race or someone's background. I used to love Hamilton, I was his biggest fan. But in the last few years he's changed and he's out of touch, in my opinion. But obviously, we're all racist for calling out a millionaire who's a hypocrite.
