Just watched him on football focus. Seems a very personable bloke and spoke a lot of sense. Says they will still pay match day staff.
Don't be fooled. He's a very good speaker and pr man with a track record of greed who would sell his grandma for £50
I watched Football Focus as well. Concensus seems to be suspend all European and International games, to ensure that when/if league games resume, all outstanding fixtures are fulfilled. I personally can't see any other solution. There would be uproar if the season was cancelled and restarted afresh from August in my opinion.
Certainly looks to have had plenty of varied experience re- FA, Spurs, Vancouver Whitecaps and now Brighton&HA. Looks as though he could well have used his former contacts to bring some very lucrative sponsorship deals to the South Coast club. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Barber_(soccer_administrator)
I like Young nudger. He entertains me. If you look at the Brighton guys history you'll see what I mean. He's the guy who secured big sponsorship deals for the premier league and big TV deals too and basically handed them all the financial power that they've got. Sure he was only doing his job but he's screwed football
I’m not sure there’ll be time for that. I think the earliest they could realistically restart would be June, and that means trying to fit in matches really quickly or running into next season. the other precedent mentioned was to have two automatic promotions and no relegation. So the premiership would run with 2 extra teams for a season. Obviously I have no vested interest in hoping for this scenario.
I've still not really seen a reason why it can't be played behind closed doors if they can't restart in front of crowds. Is the risk of the fittest, healthiest elite athletes catching it any higher than 22 people of various levels of health and ages working together in an air conditioned office?
Well bugger me. Only just noticed that there’s two Donny Reds. But which one is the best; Donny Red or Donny-Red? Only one way to find out, fiiiiiiight!
Extra strain on emergency services if the advice is work from home I suppose. Plus the players won't all conveniently catch it at the same time, it will be staggered so training will be a nightmare too.
Isn't the advice generally work from home where possible? I assume that means where your job allows it and for their job it doesn't allow it any more than mine does really. If you start essentially cancelling and forcing the closure of companies because their employees can't congregate together in a workplace environment then surely you have to do the same across the board? You can't just pick and choose which industries need to close
I don’t spend a lot of time hugging my workmates. It’s interesting to see how many cases there are in football compared to the population at large.
I can't see why there should be uproar...granted its inconvenient and annoying for some but at the end of the day it's a medical emergency that could kill far more people if it's not acted on now. It's not predicted to peak until June, even if fixtures were scheduled to be played in a rush after that so many players will be out of contract that it would be a nightmare.
Don't know why there are two of us JBP. I'm assuming that we both hail from Donny. ? Always interested to read my namesakes views. Talks a lot of sense ,as do others on the board of course. Really glad that there is a spread of opinion. It would be boring if we all felt exactly the same, although being an eternal optimist, I find some of the negativity a little wearing. Having said that, some of our recent performances have even tested my resolve. Now that there is no live football, it will be very interesting to share in the various topics that are posted in the coming weeks. Sincerely hope that the enforced break gives our boys the chance to rest and hopefully return and get enough points from our remaining games to stay in the Championship.
