I don't mind old Boycott (me old grandmother could've done better and she's been dead 50 year) Don't particulary care much for his politics but he has always struck me as a typical old school tory: strong work ethic and save save save. His tightness is legendary. People are allowed to have opinions in this wondrous democracy of ours, it is fundamental for respectful discourse.

Shrewd really? Generations of Barnsley people and beyond have given him hero worship, I would call it crass and disrespectful to many of his fans who no doubt number many ex miners, steelworkers and the like. His politics are his business, but he knew full well many people would be dismayed by his vocal admiration for Thatcher and May. Should've kept his mouth shut.

I like Geoff because of what he did while playing Cricket and provided he's not doing or saying anything illegal he's entitled to his opinion politically.

    Definitely.

A great player, although not always a team player.

My views on May & Thatcher and his couldn't differ more greatly, but he is entitled to them.

Saw that he is a long time hero of Teresa May (or may not, but those ******* MP's will not get a vote).

I'm minded of that old tale about when they asked Dickie Bird whether he'd pick Boycott to bat to save his (Dickie's) life. "No!" Dickie said.... "I'd 'ev Viv Richards. But if I'd to pick somebody to bat to save his own life...........!"

I never said anything about his entitlement to a political opinion. I simply don't think it was shrewd in saying what he said praising Thatcher who's policies greatly affected many of his admirers and their families for the worse. There's no doubting his ability as a world class batsman of his time. Can the same be said about him as a person?

It came up in an interview so he expressed an opinion. I understand why many, particularly those from the same area, may not like his opinion but that shouldn't change it. Geoff was a very talented Cricketer, his credentials as a man may not stand up to the same scrutiny but he's still a great Cricketer nonetheless.

I don't know him but I suspect he's not a man to consider how others may view him or his opinions when asked. He'll tell it exactly how he sees it - 'to play with a straight bat' for want of a better phrase.

It was neither shrewd nor foolish in my opinion. I doubt it will change the opinions of the vast majority of people who read it.

World class batsman in his time, but probably also a very selfish batsman - which is not necessarily a bad trait in an opener. Unfortunately that is the main target of the Tory policies, so should be no surprise really.

Think you need to do a bit of research regarding this. The Telegraph investigation for starters. Plenty of other stuff too.
