You know as a kid, when you knew exactly what date and time the Boat Race, Grand National and FA Cup final were ..... ?

Seemingly the boat race was earlier.

    Boring as hell.

Cambridge won both easily - and in fact had both won by the time they went past craven cottage in the early stages of the race

Clean sweep for the Light Blues once again, which is particularly satisfying this year given how Oxford had successfully campaigned to block 3 of the Cambridge squad from participating on the basis that they were studying for PGCE's.

The dedication that these crews put into training for this race is incredible, and the demands on their time is brutal (they basically have to fit studying around rowing training, and most of them won't make in into the Blue Boats).

I'm no doubt one of the few on here who cares about the result, but it's one of the purest amateur sporting events remaining and is utterly brutal on the participants in terms of physical demands.

Aren't a bunch of them generally international standard rowers doing some token land economics course?

All for toffs and I hate the event. So boring.
I loved the year when the boats sank

Land Economy used to be the default course for Blues rowers and rugby players, but I'm not sure that many of them go down that route these days.

Not sure what the Oxford equivalent course is, but Land Economy was historically the Cambridge one used.

There was a famous quote, possibly folklore, from one of the rugby players back in the day who'd been sneaked a preview of the exam questions by his tutor, but complained that it was the answers he needed, not the questions.

Wouldn't really class myself as a toff, although others might think otherwise.

T.osser probably more likely from 'others'.

All I can think is how rubbish all the other universities must be at rowing when it's these two that get to the final every year.

You used to know when FA Cup final was, growing up it was always the week after the league ended. They've had the final before the league has ended before.
