How many folks off here went there back in the 80s? I remember there used to be a bit of a Holgate / Lundwood (Priory) thing going on, as that's where most folks seemed to come from. Disco, pool, films, arcade games, tuck shop. Happy days. and 2p home on the bus.
The only time I went was during the strike when i went with my mates from the pits. Videos and lots of 5 a side football.
I went but not until 90-91. My mate was a helper. When we met at 6th form he had his own set of keys. We went up on 'down' college time and laiked footy etc. Then helped out when the younger lads came to use it.
I was a member there when ir was at the Weslian hall at the top of Pinfold steps. Great place. Mostly made up of kids from Churchfield, Racecommon Rd and Dodderth Rd. Huge gym on the first floor for 5 a side. Table tennis and tuck shop on the ground floor.
Never a member but I was a helper around 1989-90. Fri and Sat nights and then Sunday morning football looking after the older lads. No training, no CRB or other checks. Just taken on trust!
A few of us used to go down from poggy in the 70s. Mick McCarthy used to lay for Barnsley Boys Club on Sunday afternoons in Poggy Rec. He stood out only for his ability to throw and head the ball prodigious distances. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Keith Steel (son of ex Reds Manager Johnny) used to run it. Weird upstairs playing 5 a side in an oval space.
Re: We used to go Bit off topic here - which I have often been accused of But always wondered why the hooli element at Barnsley didn't choose that for their obvious name - instead of the more obscure Barnsley 5-0 tag Or would that BBC clash with that other BBC at the Blunts ???
Does any body remember the massive train set layout that was in seperate room on ground floor. Think it was thr barnsley model club.
