Frightening and very sad. I note it mentions is alcoholism, if you ever see any of those videos with titles like “as a neurologist here’s the top x number of things i recommend you do”. Don’t drink is usually in the top 3 along with smoking.
Really sad to hear that. Great goalscorer for us back in the early 90s. Scary how many ex footballers are suffering this.
Very sad to read. Remember his perfect hatrick, with with each foot and a header, forgot who it was against.
Well that was a sad read. The first decent striker we had in my time watching us. Rammell and Savile were good, but Payton a level above.
Really sad to read that. I loved him and Lidds linking up in the early days of Danny’s tenure. Redders thumping them in from range. Brendan here, there and everywhere. Eaden, Taggart, Fleming, Archdeacon. Great times.
Best natural goalscorer in my time watching the super reds!, we've had better all round strikers but as a "fox in the box" type, Payton for me was tops. .........sithi.
I think you may have missed Biggins out of that list ( who was quality for us, but only over a fairly short spell), but to get Peyton we had to lose Biggins, still think we had Celtics pants down in that deal TBH and Peyton was a serious upgrade.
I think he edges out Woodrow on that score, you’re right. They loved a scruffy one. Bit like one of DKDs yesterday.
I can't imagine football without headers. However no entertainment is worth this. Best wishes to Andy and his family. His wife sounds like one hell of a woman
Very sad to hear. A proper striker. He was probably one of only a handful of players I was truly excited about signing from his prior exploits, Redfearn being another. His short term pace was explosive, his movement exceptional and his and Liddells partnership is one of my favourites in the time I’ve watched us. I can’t think of a better one on one striker for us. Not with us long enough, but a quality player who scored plenty. Andy Paint Tin, Andy Paint Tin, Andy Andy Paint Tin…
I think he was the original "non-celebrator" when scoring at a former club. We won 1-0 at Turf Moor early 90s and he scored the winner. Not an ounce of celebration. Really sad news that, hope he keeps the condition in check for a few years yet.
