I thought it was the right move at the time.Hammell wasn't giving us much width anyway and Wolves were getting more joy going through the middle.Interesting to hear Bobby H.saying the manager and coaching staff kept urging the players to keep getting forward but the players mentality is to protect the lead. Also very honest of him to say in hindsight he should have kicked the ball up the line instead of playing it inside and then they wouldn't have scored. As we all know hindsight is a marvelous thing.
Hammill and Reid were tracking each other.. now who scored here's a thought.Hamiil injured, bring on Devaney to track Reid up and down the wing. Who was it who scored for Wolves??
I said it at the time when the sub was made. Should have been Devaney. Bringing Andranik on meant that we were allowing them to take the flanks and just defending down the middle. We should have kept our width and continued to get at them. Lo and behold they get a goal from a ball in from one flank and the player that Devaney would have been picking up on the other flank is on his own in the box to tuck it away. That substitution cost us the 3 points today, but it has been happening all season so no surprise when he did it.
Hammill wasn't tracking anybody He was knackered and spend most ofthe second half in the center circle. I would like to have seen Disco come on though (as opposed to Andranik).
If both were playing to form I'd have definitely put andranik on. he came on and was poor. Plenty of mistakes elsewhere around the pitch in the lead up to their goal. Hindsight is 20/20
RE: If both were playing to form It wasn't hindsight though, its too easy to put it down to that. It was painfully obvious what was needed. Devaney may have come on and not contributed much but at least we would have kept our shape and not conceeded the channels to them. They played around all our players who were in the middle of the pitch.
No of course not because had andranik done well when he came on and we had won, you would still be saying we ought to have brought on Devaney. Yeah right.
It was said by many of us at the time But hey, let's accuse people of hindsight simply because they didn't post those comments on here straight away.
RE: I was astonished at the time that it wasn't Devaney nt Couldn't believe it. But lets just put it down to hindsight rather than the manager not knowing what the game needed.
