£32b according to this from PL alone since its inception. https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/tax/hmrc-policy/premier-league-makes-ps32bn-tax-contribution?amp Sure there will me lots of creative accounting going on though.
I'm actually surprised it's so low given the scale of wages now and the scope of vat. I'd probably put a 90% tax on the top earners, not 80%.
Who could have foreseen that a "gentlemen's agreement" with the Saudis might not be honoured? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. He needs to make sure he doesn't accept any invites to discuss the matter in their embassy or he'll be inside Monday's meat and tatie pies.
They have unsettled him. It was common knowledge the sort of value Newcastle were placing on him. Liverpool tried it on with a low ball offer, knowing full well they'd not get him for that, and no doubt hoping it would cause ructions and they might just get him for not much more. They knew exactly what they were doing.
But why? Newcastle are in the champions league anyway, why is he desperate to go to Liverpool in particular? He's worth the price a club is prepared ro pay for him. But if Newcastle don't want to sell then he needs to get on and do the job he's signed the contract for.
It's low ball for someone valued at £150m. That's modern football for you. You don't get a player rated as one of the very best strikers in the world for less, not with years left on contract. Ok.
You would have hoped that is what would happen. But it hasn't. I'd imagine the wages on offer from Liverpool will be significantly more than Newcastle can offer. He'll know that, wouldn't surprise me if his agent knows what he'd be paid, I'm sure talks happen unofficially.
On reflection I have no sympathy for anyone. Not Liverpool who will have unsettled Isak, not Isak who could hand in a transfer request but won't because he'll lose money, not Newcastle who have sold their soul to the Saudis and are trying to sign Wissa from Brentford who is adopting similar tactics. Modern football in a nutshell - no matter which direction you turn you're guaranteed to end up looking at an avaricious cunt
id like to think the vast majority of footballers actually want to play, I know it’s childish but something needs to give wages and player power have spiralled out of control, yes every player should be free to decide but they never complain when they sign these contracts, only when they decide they want out of it.
When it’s all done and dusted it would be interesting to get Isak’s side of the story either from him or his agent. Even better, an interview with , say , Simon Jordan.
