And it wasn't real. It was created explicitly to beat the previous longest thread that Tommy Tyke and his son kept incessantly bragging about, which is why it was such a broad and open ended subject. And while there was some debate within it, due to those of us who knew the purpose of the thread being deliberately provocative, the majority of posts within were simply shooting the breeze to get the post count up. There you go, cat out of the bag. It keeps getting brought up 20 years on when it was a childish joke for a week or two. Although it did work as no one remembers the subject matter of the thread it beat.
