I just reckon pool is a piece of piss. Total lottery as regards where the balls ends up decides who wins. If I can get my hand down on the table with a proper cue it's rare I get thrashed at pool. I tend to get beat at pool in cramped bar rooms that aren't suitable with people sat up my arse with a cue that doesn't take any chalk.

Years ago, we used to go for a pint on Friday lunchtime to the Friendship in Gawber. We used to play pool on the 3/4 size snooker table. The old boy who use to take us inevitably slaughtered us young-uns, even though he couldn't properly see the other end of the table. He later told us he'd come 2nd in the RAF snooker championship during the war (WW2). :D
Thinking back, 2 or 3 quick pints, blind as a bat; he really shouldn't have been driving us down there from Broadway. TWTD

That generation was probably an excellent Billiard player too.
Now that is much harder than Snooker.

The tactical side of pool is easier to Grasp if you are understand Snooker. Going the other way is a huge Learning curve.

Hats off to anybody who can play snooker. I was fairly decent at pool but snooker...rubbish.
My mate is decent but then he did grow up with a full size snooker table and a mum who was going out with, if I recall correctly, Bill Werbeniuk. He used to have regular nights where Bill would invite the likes of Ray Reardon and Dennis Taylor etc round for a few frames and a drink or two.

I am very impressed by the victory over Korchnoi and by any victory against Tal!

Well I bet that was interesting and would certainly help.
My Dad played from a very young age and used to take me from being around 8 to either the snooker club or the working mens. I remember having a little step i used to carry round the table to play off. I'm also fairly good with the rest as a result of not being able to reach.
We used to set up different practice routines and he would make me do them over again until I Improved.
I did enjoy it but perhaps wouldn't have stuck with it but for the fact I loved spending time with my Dad.

Me too. Even more so that the gentleman in question considers himself to be merely "quite good" at chess! I was planning on playing him but then Covid struck. I'm going to try next time I'm in St Petersburg. I played another bloke there who trained with the old masters in the 80's and he was insanely good. Absolutely strangled me positionally until I had no moves left apart from shuffling my rook from side to side. Even more impressive, he consumed a bottle and a half of wine during the game, whereas I was driving!

According to my calculations, "forty" is not merely the first number to have all its letters in alphabetical order, but the only one.
