Oak and well. Or am I missing some subtle humour?

Nothing humorous. To me it depicts Oakwell so we can both agree on that but then that to me then relates to an area of Barnsley that once had an oak tree, a well and a brewery and that is where the name Oakwell came from which relates to the area and not just the stadium.

I'm not a fan of that one. Clearly designed to be embroidered. Maybe a modern interpretation with stylised clean lines. Although crests seem to be going away from clean designs, e.g. Wednesday. I always secretly admired that stylised owl as a design.

I think the club needs a new badge. The town crest was fine in symbolising the community but it needs a refresh. I do like the crossed pickaxes.

So did I. I can't believe they dropped it. Such a strong brand. What they've got now is awful. My favourite club crest is Swansea's. I've thought for years we should do something similar with a kestrel.

"Smoke-filled pubs strewn with pints of foamy ale as the sound of snooker balls clack. Bickering around a family dinner table over clinking tea cups. The camaraderie between miners on a snap break down a shaft as they munch on jam sandwiches. The mud-caked knees of school boys running around a football field. The seething rage against the politically unjust. And, set against churning smog: piles of coal, and landscapes of lush green.
There are few writers who have managed to capture the tongue, spirit and essence of post-war South Yorkshire quite like Barry Hines. The writer of novels such as A Kestrel for a Knave, The Gamekeeper, Looks and Smiles, and The Blinder – along with TV and film scripts such as Threads and The Price of Coal – Hines was a working class writer who sought to capture everyday life with artistry, authenticity, and comic flair."

Why wouldn't we adopt that as ours?

An Eagle for an Emperor, a Gyrfalcon for a King; a Peregrine for a Prince, a Saker for a Knight, a Merlin for a Lady; a Goshawk for a Yeoman, a Sparrowhawk for a Priest, a Musket for a Holy water Clerk, and a Kestrel for a Knave

If we're going with something totally new I'd be happy with that. It's synonymous with Barnsley, and a stylised version like that could be good.

That’s a truly terrible badge. The only reason people like it is nostalgia. If it was introduced as a new design now with no history it would be laughed out of existence.

Bit of work required to make sure the bird actually can be identified as a kestrel… maybe use Jay’s design for the kestrel instead.

Rather than the current shield they should set the crest in an oak wreath, with a small well at the bottom.
