Mendelson, in my view, was more Tory than Labour. Did you know George Osbourn, the one who brought you austerity, became runner-up to Mendelson to become the ambassador to America, a bit of useless information :)

Doesn’t do any favours for Starmer that’s for sure, backed both him and Raynor and then both have had to go.

I've been busy with house moving stuff this morning.

Apart from being pally with Epstein (which though it makes my skin crawl, isn't criminal)... What is he alleged to have actually done wrong?

Well the latest one is that he'd said some years ago that Epstein's convictions were "wrong".

What are all of them, because I've not actually seen something that's illegal, fraudulent or criminal so far. Bad judgement and poor company, for sure, but I've not heard an actual allegation despite the rolling coverage since I switched it on.

I'm a Labour supporter (still am!) but I'm disappointed in Starmer over Mandelson. Very poor judgement. Starmer is as exciting as a damp grey dishcloth, but I thought he was a safe pair of hands. I think this is the beginning of the end for him.

No, nothing illegal, yet, but it's a terrible look to have a man in his position showing such poor judgement and backing a convicted Epstein, twice, even after conviction.

I was never in favour of him being ambassador in the first place - another big mis-step by Starmer. At least he's had the balls to sack Mandelson though.

Maybe because this week alone working parents can now receive upto £7500 a year in child care freeing up cash and time they haven't had previously.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/over-half-a-million-children-to-benefit-from-funded-childcare

Lots to do and it's easy to see what's going on around it but there are lots of good things happening that will put us in a much better place in years to come.

Mandelson has clearly been spoken to and asked if there is anything extra likely to be exposed in the next month or year or whatever that is likely to bring his appointment and therefore the government into disrepute.
I imagine he can’t rule it out and has therefore been sacked. Not sure what else could have been done once he’d been made Ambassador in the first place.

Personally I think he had a bit of a crush on Epstein and has probably written some more cringe (“big yikes” for the gen Z) worthy things that could well be published imminently.

Because Andy, the realistic alternative to not doing so is exponentially worse.

I know you are a big advocate of the Greens - but they aren’t winning elections anytime soon.

If Labour hadn’t won the last election, and if they don’t win the next, we will have the Tories, Reform, or maybe a coalition of both.

Starmer is about as far removed from a socialist as any Labour mp has been. And he’s the PM. Plenty to criticise.

But if you hold your nose to get past the obvious stench, his government have actually achieved a fair bit in their just north of twelve months in power - and as much as I haven’t and never will warm to him, given the option of him, Badenoch or Farage in Downing Street, I don’t have to think for long.

Plenty will say that this government is just as bad as the last, Starmer is a Tory, a liar, a lovely person - whichever takes your fancy. In truth they really aren’t as corrupt, or cruel, and don’t have the motivations or intentions of the alternatives or predecessors.

As is your right - and well justified.

Though you have to acknowledge in doing so your vote could lead to a more than right leaning government in four years.

As I’ve eluded to in my replies to YT, vote Green, get Reform.

That may well be the case.

Remember GB.... Vote Nick, get Dave...

At least YT will be able to hold his head high, it's not his fault if the others get in. He voted for and is sticking with his preference. Now if the entire population voted for what they wanted, rather than tactical to keep certain ones out, we might actually see a decent outcome. (Or worse to be completely honest)

If we have four more years of the mullering Labour are getting in the media and opinion polls (some of it, possibly a lot of it fair - but quite a lot of it is unjust, they have actually achieved a fair bit in trying circumstances), then Green might be the credible left leaning option and if so one I’d strongly consider.

At the moment my vote would still be to Labour and not tactically - I couldn’t ever believe I’d be better off under a Tory government - be that morally or financially - I could never support the agenda of Reform, and I don’t think the Greens would be in any position to govern or even provide strong opposition.

But four years is a long time.

One of his pretty overtures was A Midsummer Night's Dream, composed around 1842.

I’ve said it many times on here, there have been positives in the year and a bit under Labour. I’m more than happy to admit that, to praise that (and have done) and hope for further success stories. I like to think I’m fair minded.
