Nobody said flags are inherently racist, or that having them at football is racist. Putting them up on public property as part of a campaign founded by an EDL/Britain First ****** to foment nationalism and anti-immigrant sentiment is obviously very different.
It's all about what's appropriate. It's a bit like taking a sh*t. It's perfectly acceptable to do one in your toilet. But as soon as you do one one your neighbours front doorstep, it has very different connotations. Flying an England flag on your own property or at a sporting event, is a perfectly acceptable, patriotic thing to do. Seeking out the only non-white family in the village and hanging one pointedly outside their house, however...
100% this, I for one see the flags out all down certain Lincoln streets and think how great something like this would look for an appropriate event.
