Yep. I’ve never been. Our class went to Hornsea Potteries & Flamingo, but I was ill so missed out. Think it was called Flamingo Park back then?
We’ve just come back from a 4 day trip at Angrove Country Park with the dog, we had the best time. I made an itinerary (very unlike me) as we’d not been before. Here it is if you want to copy any of it. General comments: Day 1 - parking was free at Locke Park but was disappointed to see that dogs had to be on lead so didn’t stay long. They can go on the pedalos with you but the lake was tiny so just decided to go straight to the beach. We walked from there to Redcar beach which was amazing and Betsy tried to roll on every crab and dead bird she found which she loved! Us not so much From there we walked to The Boathouse for lunch. Lovely place but service was very slow! Everywhere in Redcar is dog friendly, their MP is doing a big push on it. You can even take it in the cinema (we didn’t). Guisborough Forest (not in Redcar, about ten minutes from the lodge) is definitely worth a visit. We didn’t stay long as it was late by the time we’d checked in but it’s huge! Day 2 - nice little walk around Great Ayrton. Very small village but Waterfall Park was good for Betsy. Roseberry Topping is a great walk up a very steep hill. Takes around an hour ish if you go straight up and down but you could extend the walk for hours if you wanted. Day 3 - had a nice walk up to Captain Cook’s monument from Gribsdale Gate (about an hour if you just want to walk straight there and back). Sunday dinner at Fletcher’s farm was absolutely delicious (Will had an all day breakfast that also looked spot on). In the afternoon I was initially a little disappointed with Saltburn beach as it was nothing compared to Redcar but we went up the Cliff Lift to Valley Gardens and that was a really nice place to free run her with a little stream for her to play in too. Day 4 - Whitby is Whitby. Did a little harbour boat tour just because they allowed dogs. It was a bit boring to be honest but hadn’t done one before. Walked up the steps to the abbey as there’s a bit of grass to let Betsy off lead. Hadley’s fish and chip restaurant was good and really quick and friendly service. Went to Fuzzy Dog bakery where the owner gave Betsy lots of free samples and then we bought her some treats. Massive walk to the part dogs are allowed on West Cliff beach (all the way to the very end of the beach huts). Fantastic beach when you get there though and loads of rock pools for the dog to sniff around and splash in. Whitby was probably the least dog friendly of everywhere, despite how dog friendly it actually is. I didn’t know what to expect as only been to Whitby out of the 4 places before but I’d definitely return. I don’t know if the lodges have any availability for this weekend (we booked though Hoseasons but also for sale on Landal) but the bbq, hot tub and dog agility course were all fun.
