If a substantial bid comes in then it’s a difficult situation for the club. He’s a very good player but if he doesn’t go tomorrow he’ll go next summer so it’s a difficult balancing act. The main things for me are that we don’t loose both DKD and Phillips and if we do loose one then we extend our good summer business with a couple of permanent signings. I wouldn’t be surprised if a Championship club comes in for Phillips, he’s better than league 1. I do have faith that if anyone goes it will be a reasonable fee though.
Leroy lita was once a good player he came here and looked a raffle winner. Every dog has his day, woodrow would be a no I'd rather have devante back. Like a said there's a reason Luton have played him a grand total of 59 minutes so far this season. I love the sentiment BTW.
Our current board wouldn't be stupid enough to sell a key player to a promotion rival and at such short notice. Phillips if he has any ambition wouldn't be leaving us for another side in this league. He'd wait for someone higher up the food chain to come calling.
Reading between the lines on their message board, I got the impression their financial situation is far from rosy, though couldn't really work out why.
[QUOTE="YT, post: 3498259, member: Woodrow, one of the best signings and strikers we’ve had in the modern era.[/QUOTE] I dont often considerably disagree with you but I do seriously on this one. He was 'ok' and with Moore he scored some goals. But one of the best in the modern era? Come on.... p.s. it also depends on what 'The modern era' is obviously. Regards
Reported to be costing £450m their new stadium, those parachute payments pale into insignificance when you factor that in.
That's a fair point. Are they paying for it it all themselves or they've got private/council funding to support the project?
They're paying the majority. From AI: Luton Town's new Power Court stadium is being primarily financed by private investment from the club's parent company, 2020 Holdings. Crucial funding also comes from the sale of the old Kenilworth Road site for residential development, and the sale of the Newlands Park site to an investment fund advised by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing and developer Renbridge. The project relies on these private funds with limited reliance on public money.
They had plans in place for that when they were last in L1, so unless the costs have increased by 100’s of millions it shouldn’t effect them.
Dunno how to directly reply to you @KamikazeCo-Pilot as you’ve had a proper Cosgrove with the quote function. I’d say the last 20 years would be modern. But regardless, the bloke has scored more goals than anyone else for us this millennium having joined on a free, rejecting offers elsewhere to sign an extension, was key to an automatic promotion in an unbeaten season, a great escape campaign at the very death and was a big part of the squad who registered our highest finish since the year 2000. If there have been better for us over that time period, who are they?
Yep & they had the plans in place to pay for it too. The £450m isn’t just for the ground it’s a total redevelopment of an area that includes hotel facilities, 1000 apartments, music venue & restaurants.
Aye, I've detailed above how they are intending to pay for it. I'm not saying they're gonna go bust or owt because of it, but you can see why they're not just able to do a Birmingham and spend loads of cash, even though on the face of it they've got it with the parachute payments.
They said from moment of promotion, that they would continue in the same approach with recruitment and being sustainable etc and all the money would do would be to ease the pressure, the only change I can see so far that getting promoted is they changed the capacity from 17.5 to 25k. Like you say money was earmarked by business and council involvement with the help over the infrastructure etc.
The cost will have definitely gone up loads mate, to what extend obviously I don’t know, but I’ve experience at work where delaying projects costs more in end as prices don’t stand still
Sorry about the quote, must have been the parentheses. It was partly the 'modern era' comment that threw me, but apart from that I just thought, watching Woodrow he was just as poor in front of goal as he was productive. In his last spell he scored a lot as I remember but they were mainly penalties (as I remember again). His overall play was poor for me. His first touch was often poor. His lay offs were often poor. That's not statistical analysis, its observational reflection so you'll have to bear with me. Basically he was overrated and although he did well in scoring terms for a while he didn't sustain it (and has continued not to sustain it). So, the statistics may, or may not prove a point but I still maintain he was 'ok' rather than great. L1 players for BFC in the modern era do not automatically translate into great players just because of L1 statistics. He was 'ok' and he might still be 'ok' but 'ok' is the tops. Statistics are not the be all either as you will know from the move of 'XG hero' Watters. If Woodrow was class he would have scored MORE goals at this level and Championship. Anyway... Cheers. P.s who was better? Depends again on how you define better. I'd say Moore fairly recently but I don't know stats about him. Maybe his stats suggest he's a donkey.. I dunno
Oh no doubt but not to the extent of needing vast sums from the premier league. Big part of the reason they have gone into a PCSA to control the costs
I thought Woodrow was excellent for us for a couple of seasons but his performance got worse as time went on, it really was time to move on when he finally left
Woodrow no thanks. 3 goals in 67 appearances. And didn't cut it in his last season with us. Where would we play him ?. If Phillips does go then Russell can fill his spot.
