If he'd ran through and scored everyone would be bollocking Connell for not taking the yellow and stopping the break.
It's my opinion- he's done it quite a few times and it is going to cost us in a game when he picks up another yellow. Part of his game he needs to stamp out
Not called for? Incredibly naive outlook. Would you have preferred him to let their lad run through at an isolated defender after Phillips’ shocking free kick left us with eight players in front of the ball? It was the archetypal professional foul. He made the correct decision to do it - of that I’m 100% certain - and it got his mate (and his team) out of the sh.it.
It's my opinion and not naive in the slightest - not a part of his game I'm keen on. He's done it on several occasions and he will come a cropper one day -
Ah right not entitled an opinion- got you! He's done it quite a few times and needs to have a think- he's either going to get hurt or he'll hurt someone. Switch that round to an opposing player and we wouldn't like it
I was surprised he didn’t go on to get sent off, cos I was expecting Huddersfield to start diving all over him after his yellow. I was wondering whether Conor would look back to when he should have taken Yoganathan off a few games ago?
Never said you weren’t allowed an opinion. Just that your opinion is wrong! And that is putting it mildly. I’d expect an opposition player to do exactly the same. In fact in recent seasons we have seen that happen week in and week out, and then complain that we’ve been ‘old manned’ or that we aren’t as in tune with the dark arts as the opposition. Wycombe and Lincoln come to mind. Luca Connell has made 184 professional appearances in his career - 166 starts - and has got a second yellow card once. His only red card. He made his seventh appearance of the season today - and received his first booking. You can have your view - but I don’t think there’s a competent professional midfield player that has played the game who hasn’t taken a similar decision to the one he made today. If he is faced with that again in our next game I sincerely hope he takes the same action.
"I said to the lads at half-time, just be really professional in the second half. I didn’t want anyone running off and doing their own thing and no-one thinking they could nick a couple of goals just because they have got a man less. That will be why the second half was boring to watch. We didn't test the keeper half as many times as I expected we would. We invited pressure and at times didn't look like we were playing ten men. We kept looking to go backwards and with Ogbeta we finally got in bother doing so. Shepherd and Connell both came close to being caught on a couple of occasions. A few more goals for the goal difference would have been good.
Gordon saw the point I was making- I think those tackles are going to cost him in a game -once he's picked up the card it takes one over zealous ref like he have seen and he'll pay the price. Would we like that type of tackle- no
Alternatively. We saw the game out professionally, played keep ball, passed side to side then through, pulling them left and right and tiring them with them being a man short - and denied them a single shot on target except the aberration by Ogbeta when he provided the best assist Joe Taylor will have in his career.
Connell messed the free kick up tried to pass it sideways to a reds player and passed it straight to Huddersfield. Committed the foul to make up for that as they were on the break. was the right decision.
Without having seen it back, I'm with you on this one. I thought he was well able to shadow the player and put in a legitimate challenge, and he had a covering defender too, so thought it was a little rash to make the challenge he did. I also thought he made such a swing at the player, he did give the ref a small opening to even the red cards up if he was that way inclined, though that would have been pretty ridiculous if he had. All that said, having picked up the yellow he was immaculate for the rest of the game, and showed the maturity Vimal didn't a coupe of weeks back. Kudos for that.
So he's prevented several dangerous breaks and not got sent off for it yet. If he gets sent off 1 in every 10 or so times it happens it's probably still worth doing.
He had more than enough time to track him - he's done it a few times so it isn't a one off. He will come a cropper one day
