Watching leic v brum var was needed. Fella who scored 2nd goal. Should of been sent off 10 mins before. Ref 10 yard away. Above ankle tackle reckless and nasty. Player kyogo once of celtic had to go off injured. Ref should be demoted to conference.
Instead of spending money on VAR, why not just train referees better? At all levels of the game. Oh and go back to some sensible sort of offside rule instead of the stupid one we have now.
We all remember the 2-1 defeat at the Sty in the PL where Di Canio by any standards should have been sent off and then popped up to score the winner.
To be fair to the refs, the game is so fast these days that no amount of training will allow them to see everything that goes on. I'm fine with VAR as long as it's used sensibly and doesn't disrupt the flow of the game. No more penalties when the ball brushes somebody's hand, and no more toenail offsides (in my opinion now we have such sensitive equipment there should be clear daylight between the attacker and the defender, otherwise you're onside).
VAR is not the problem, the standard of English refereeing is. When it comes to international tournaments, VAR works really well because it's not being operated by English referees for the most part. But in the Prem, the use of VAR is a complete shambles.
In every international tournament, you've just got the top ref from each country. I haven't watched Serie A for years, but I'm not convinced the standard of refereeing is any better there than here. I don't think our refs are particularly bad, just the implementation of VAR is shambolic as you quite rightly say, plus some of the rule changes are bonkers. Marginal handballs are really spoiling things at the minute.
I thought VAR was supposed to highlight “clear and obvious” calls that have been missed by the ref?....however too many decisions by VAR are that controversial they can’t be classed as “clear and obvious “, also the on field ref is scared to death to overrule any VAR decision for fear of repercussions imo.
Granted it looked worse in slow motion but with the game being so fast now if you miss connecting with the ball you usually connect with the players leg.A tackle cant be made without some kind of contact.Thought the ref had a good game, some refs send him off some dont, just let them get on with it.It was nice to see an official not giving fouls for every tackle and bookings for every foul.
Refs are on a hiding to nothing players cheat for every single decision these days it’s no wonder they get loads wrong.
I’ve come to realise refereeing is that inept, it’s better to have it now. The Grimsby - United game was littered with mistakes on Wednesday night and that was a sending off last night. It’s every game at the moment ref’s miss big calls. I’m over it now and more concerned about the in-play refereeing.
VAR is one of the main reasons that I don't watch any PL games on TV. It should only be invoked if there's a clear and obvious mistake by the ref, anything marginal should be left in the hands of the on field officials.
Refs have always missed big calls though before VAR. None bigger for me than Gary Neville's blatant assault on Andy Liddell in the FA Cup at Old Trafford not resulting in a penalty for us. Only human. When you're having to slow the replay down to give a foul it's wrong.
VAR was brought in because incompetent referees were making basic mistakes, those very same refs are monitoring the VAR so its hardly a surprise it is as it it. Maybe ex players should be doing the VAR, or just scrap it
I have just stuck up for VAR and I wish I hadn’t have after watching this awful performance from the referee and VAR in the Chelsea game.
