EVERY club wants this. Would you have been happy for us to get another Clem Rodrigues, Cosgrove, Josh Martin instead of Mcgoldrick, Vickers and Kelly if it meant us doing it before the season started? Why do people keep pretending its an easy thing to do? As if there isn't context and reasons behind everything. We can't do what Birmingham did and just chuck 30 million at it mate.
We just have to be patient and see what happens. My expectation going into this window was that we'd be starting to rebalance the squad and look to reduce our huge losses. Though we've released a decent number, the loans out won't be getting fully recovered. Salaries will have ratcheted up, so wages for players we still have will be higher than 12 months prior. As yet, we've not generated a significant transfer fee. I suspect our players aren't getting the expected interest at a level we find acceptable. If that continues, Parekh will have to test how deep his pockets are again, because the losses will still be significant.
I'd be interested to see how many teams still trade players both in and out between now and Monday. I bet out of the 92, it'll be over 85. Without checking, I bet all of the 92 (even Wednesday) have signed someone since the season started. This 'wanting to do the business early' thing isn't realistic unless you've got enough money to pay whatever you want for players. I honestly wish Mladen hadn't said it at the start of pre-season.
But he didn't say anything wrong mate. He 'wanted' signings in before the season starts. Just like everyone else wants it - its on our fans to show a bit of common sense. Weve done considerable business incoming and outgoings so far. Every incoming ive been very happy with, hopefully a couple more will join us by the closing of the window. Edit - I've been happy with every outgoing player too.
I agree that he didn't say anything wrong, but all summer long our fans have used it as a way to criticise the transfer dealings we've done, particularly before a ball was kicked. It's been a reasonably good window and we've started the season pretty well, yet we're still getting 'so much for getting our business done early' jibes on a regular basis.
I would be livid if we signed Neymar to be fair. The most overrated footballer in the history of the sport.
Hope as I type this right now that Mladen is running tests on the fax machine and it's fully warmed up ready for a busy few days.
Minimum one central defender and one striker. Anything less than that then it's yet another failure. Performance needed on Saturday to relieve abit of pressure.
IBS - Conor’s got the team addicted to cheese boards and half the squad is severely lactose intolerant
Recruitment. Outside the starting 11 the quality available in certain positions is very poor. It's all good if we keep winning but when results/performances turn that's when the pressure will start.
We have started the season with a 37yr old striker and no backup or genuine striker to bring on the pitch in games. That's not really a great indicator of our business being conducted well and let's be honest he only joined cos he's mates with Conor really rather than it being great recruitment on our part. Im trying to wait until the window closes before fully assessing everything and thankfully us making a great start to the season so far helped but tomorrow is a test on how we bounce back after last weeks result and then see what happens on Monday.
