Snow on ground but had frozen solid, black ice, treacherous both underfoot and for vehicles trying to manoeuvre safely. Chuck in pea soup type freezing fog, accidents galore on Motorway folk slipping and sliding
Scousers running riot Merseysides finest not interested and turning a blind eye to everything from giving directions to the violence taking place
Young Duffy 17 at the most at the time, from Lundwood getting a visit from Stan the blade from his left shoulder to his right hip in a Z shape, leaving him with the mark of Zoro on his back
Out playing them most of the game out singing them all game then at the end giving them a lesson in how to sing their own anthem
The kop to a man staying behind to applaud us.
The Dustbin man Colin Walker, missing a chance that Dec Parker, would have buried, if he had played but unfortunately was out injured
You had to be there to understand
    such was the atmosphere
The hairs on the back of my neck still stand up recalling that night it was so so special

The lad who got slashed appeared on the back of the Daily mirror if I remember right. A back resembling a patchwork quilt.
A similar incident happened to a lad (I worked with at wooley westside.) Walking back to the station after a game we played at Bramhall Lane.
Mate at Middlesbrough int Cup had his Sheepskin forcibly removed.
Another had to remove his gold wedding ring or his finger was coming off with it.

Went with my late uncle and turned back about 12 from Anfield. Reading some of the stories on here it sounds like the best move we ever made!

"We're going to Wembley, We're going to Wembley, You're not, You're not"....the chant of that cup run as we swept past three top-flight teams. The first thing we heard when we got to Anfield and walked the streets to the away end.

By strange coincidence, I am currently sitting in our motorhome at Leasowe on the Wirral only 5 miles from Liverpool.

    Spooky.

Duffy was one of those slashed at Boro, across his forehead. It was Graham Linstead who had his back slashed at Liverpool.

Pubs were booming back in the early 80s. Used to go around town Thursday (pay day), Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All were busy nights back then.
