Yeah I know this might sound depressing, but this is meant as respect to the people in this thread, who have passed this year. I was always a fan of James Whale on the radio, back in the 80's, on Radio Aire (West Yorkshire). I always liked Tony Slattery because of his comedy style, it was just silly lol. And Brian Murphy, on George and Mildred, he was a really under rated actor. Henry Kelly ehh, one of the original presenters of Game for a laugh. And he did the quiz Going for gold on the Bbc. And what can we say about Ozzy Osbourne ehh, that hasn't been said already. And Terence Stamp, who was the main baddie on Superman 2, he really played that role well.
James Whale was Radio Metro when I went to Poly in Newcastle he had a late night talk show , he had a pathological hatred of students and an obsession with student housing , students used to phone in to wind him up . I remember him going mental after a joke attempt to kidnap him for Rag week , in those days he didn’t come across as someone with much of a sense of humour
Yeah mate, I agree James did that lol. And I liked it for comic effect, but admittedly people got to know him, and how to annoy him!.
Years ago, James Whale was filming something in Barnsley town centre - something to do with Peel Street Bogs IIRC, but it was 89 at the latest. He wasn't too happy when we drove past 3-4 times beeping the horn and shouting abuse at him. Unfortunately in his later days his politics went even further right wing, but I can respect his career if not liking him as a person.
James Whale love him or hate him In my case I didn't love or hate him, i felt sorry for him what led me to that opinion i along with many, thought he was an egotistical narcissistic see you next Tuesday who was all mouth and didn't have the balls to have face to face conversations. Could make his mouth say anything if it got him ratings. Yet ran like a coward when asked to explain himself. You live and learn but remember these type of people walk amongst us
Some more notable ones as well.. Frederick Forsyth (Novelist), Terry Reid (Musician), Paul Mario Day (Orig lead singer from Iron Maiden), Ray Brooks (Narrator from legendary kids tv show Mr Benn)
Sports person rather than celebrity, but it hardly seems to have been mentioned on the news I've been watching but Angela Mortimer died this week at the age of 93. She won the Wimbledon Ladies Singles Championship in 1961, having won the Australian and French titles in earlier years.
My mate and myself would try and get James to get on a rant. All to no avail..... there was a guy by the name of Patrick , however, who ended up banned lol. He still found a way onto his show under various pseudonyms
One of my brothers used to phone his radio Aire show on Friday nights, before it got put on telly. And he'd try doing a few stupid drunken jokes, before Whale could end the call. And I think one was something about what's Vera Lynn serving at the local restaurant, and ohh f*k no, I hope its not whale meat again!!.
