Agree but those difficult decisions have to be made if it benefits the team. I didn't watch the game so will watch the full match replay when available. I just assume that teams will have recognised by now if they let ogbeta have the ball and focus on stopping the middle and having 3/4 men around phillips and Vickers this will make us look a lot less dangerous.

By encouraging Ogbeta to get more forward you're creating a bigger gap for our centre backs to cover when none of them can run anyway.

He was still on the pitch when Plymouth scored

As Menai has said above, Plymouth scored when he was on the field. The defence got better when he was sent off and the 10 men kept a clean sheet.

You build your team around your best player and play to his strengths. Maybe DKD and McG can work together. I don’t see it so far

I don't think the centre of defense got any better though, it was the full backs that massively improved when the two liabilities were moved inside and as Plymouth's attack was based on going wide then crossing in it suited us perfectly because the two new full backs were better at stopping that.

    In my opinion of course

Yes, you are of course absolutely correct. And we did defend spectacularly well at Plymouth, mostly out of necessity. And because we had no immediate need to attack them and score any more goals, we could afford to pack the defence with bodies.

I still think that we are a much better defensive unit with Shepherd than without, but I completely understand that others, you included, may disagree with me on that point!

Agree with most of that. It’s worrying that we are not getting the best out of quality players like DKD, Phillips and Russell.

I’m giving Shepherd the benefit of the doubt for now - it wasn’t a great game but I’d like to see how he plays alongside a stronger partner.

I just don’t see enough in Yoganathan to justify his involvement ahead of Russell.

Thought the substitutions completely disrupted any chance of a comeback. We were all over the place.

And I maintain that until Cleary sorts out his final ball he might as well not be on the pitch. It’s all well and good powering past two defenders, but if you then put the ball in the crowd it’s pointless. Seen it too many times already. Just sloppy.

Would a 442 work better, with DKD as a proper 1[emoji4].

    Shep as done OK.
The last 2 games the midfield as been poor without the ball.
Look good going forward but in defence were woeful.
The defenders need more protection, and the first goal the goalkeeper should have been more assertive, anything in the 6 yard box is his.

Russell needs to start , we know our defence is poor and has shown little signs of improvement, but it’s early days , need another striker asap

Agree with all of that and it’s a pity this nice little run ended like that. Too many players out of sorts which is puzzling considering how well they’ve done so far. The more I watch that first DMcG chance the more I don’t understand it. He had virtually the whole of the goal to aim at yet hit it low giving the keeper a chance when he should have had none.

I couldn’t pick out one outfield player that looked good yesterday and thank goodness Cooper made some good saves to keep it to 2-0. The opposition just looked up for it and we didn’t so best draw a line under that and let’s win the next two games this week

For me, they're all looking knackered. The high intensity stuff has served us well, but is looking less intense with each passing game.

was literally a pass back he just thought he needed to tap it in rather than finish with power. Won’t get an easier chance again all season.

DKD should be played where McGoldrick does. He wouldn't have missed the sitters McGoldrick has missed in the last 3 games against Bolton, Peterborough and Wimbledon.

He's also far quicker than him so this tactic we have of trying to play through balls would work better without a 37 year old being expected to run on to them.

If Conor wants to play Phillips this is certainly the best way to fit the 2 in the side

Can't believe some of the negativity towards McGoldrick. He's been brilliant so far. His hold up play has been integral to everything positive about our start to the season. His movement is getting him in to goalscoring positions. Against Peterborough his work rate for 90 minutes was phenomenal, tracking back and winning lost causes right to the end. He's scored twice already including a last minute winner and hit the post twice with two stunning efforts. Ok he missed a good chance yesterday but it was also a cracking save from their keeper.

He's a complete cut above and our season is going to depend on keeping him fit, because no one else in the squad can play that role, and anyone who we sign wont be as good at it. He holds up play, creates for others, scores goals, and is a leader.

He's done OK so far. I just think having the two of them switch roles would work better.
