It’s Watson’s positioning that worried me yesterday. Several times he got to the man with the ball but overran by a yard or two, completely taking himself out by leaving it wide open for their player to go straight past him.
I criticised Mladen last season as I felt the January business was terrible and threw Clarke under the bus. I’m also happy to say that this summer has been really positive so far, firstly they’ve done well to move so many of the players that aren’t up to it out of the club and the incomings make a lot of sense including the permanents. It’s impossible to say how much of an influence different people have but between them they’ve done a good job and all deserve credit. Just need to finish the window off well and we could have a really decent young squad.
That's a fair point, about moving on the deadwood. I very much doubt that Conor had very much, if anything, to do with that (except for identifying them which a blind man on a galloping horse could do) - so despite not being a member of the Mladen fan club, I do think he deserves the credit for that side of the window.
I've regularly slagged Sormaz off. He's wasted loads of money and I think he should have been sacked by now. I also said I'd cut him some slack if he got this window right. I dont think those two positions are incompatible. If Sormaz has got these new players in by his own diligence then fair play to him. If its all the manager's doing then I'm still for sacking Sormaz. If people in the know are suggesting Sormaz is picking the new guys rather than Hourihane then I'm happy enough. Keep Sormaz if he's turned a corner, sack him if its all Hourihane. Some folks seem to think Sormaz has indeed turned that corner so if that's the case......keep him... for now.
All it shows is that sometimes players are available to enhance the squad and sometimes they aren't. If we sacked Mladen today it's not as if the new director of football would suddenly have access to a previously unlocked list of hidden players.
I would say Conor had never heard of most of the signings until they were put to him when deciding what kind of player he wants.Thats where recruitment steps in .Its a collective not down to any one man.
Fully agree and when its poor they should all get an equal share of the blame and all get an equsl share of the plaudits when its good. Only those in the team know who is pulling their weight and who isnt.
I get the sentiment (it's a team effort) and I fully agree. I think you do Conor a little bit of a disservice there though as he strikes me as very knowledgeable. I'm not claiming he identified the targets but I do think he would have known some of them. I do agree with the point you were making though.
