Been thinking the same, as someone been in his ear.. Ether that or he's not happy being asked to play differently this season. Somethings not right.
Players lose form, he's playing a different role so the comparison to last season isn't just as straightforward, he's still scored 2 in 4. If he bangs a hattrick in on Sat and is POTM does that mean he's staying then?
I'd like the transfer window shut now to be honest. Every coach at a crap Championship club is looking for the goose that lays the golden eggs. We have two in DKD and Phillips.
Still putting a shift in but less effective in this role. Also last season he was the star man but now he's competing with Vickers, Kelly, Cleary and a born again Phillips so maybe doesn't stand out as much. Still worth his place..
I don't think there's any lack of effort but ain't a winger or a centre forward the two postions he's played so far. Hourihane wants his best player's on the pitch obviously but they all don't suit the system dkd and Phillips in the same team isn't ideal.
He’s played on the left, or up front for much of his career. It’s not like he’s been asked to play out of position.
There certainly isn’t, but perhaps that’s a case of facts getting in the way of some people’s narrative
I've not seen a drop off in effort, but he's certainly not getting the ball where he got it last season and as a result, his involvement isn't the best it could be. Both him and McGoldrick are finding similar spaces and both at times are way too deep. There were a few times when Connell was more advanced which isn't right. A few times last night Dunn got visibly frustrated and I can understand why. We'll see how the transfer window pans out, but something has to give somewhere.
He's also playing with new players, takes a bit to get the synergy and understanding going. I'm not suggesting there is or isn't interest in him, I've no idea, but the notion of him not looking the same player is around his future is just pure bunkum
Exactly. That goes for McG and Vickers up there too. It’s a very new frontline. Same with the back four last night - never played together, got a clean sheet, and some are still criticising. I’m happily surprised at our points return so far in what I expected to be a transitional season. They seem to be gelling nicely already, and when it truly clicks, we could see some great performances.
Agree mate, still very much a work in progress but some real positive signs. 10 points from Plymouth, Burton, Bolton and Posh isn't shabby.
