Bookmark this thread for when the window closes, that fraud is the reason I did not renew, him alone not the diabolical shambles effort wise last season
That's the thing isn’t it, it’s always been explained that how recruitment works is Manager says he wants X type player, data people find a list, Mladen works down list, Manager gets say in final offerings. That says to me either the data list has been tweaked, Mladen has got better at negotiations or Manager is stronger/clearer in his opinion of final decision. That coupled with Conor personally getting involved in getting to know the individual. In reality it’s probably a combination of all. Critiscism of the club/team has been deserved as is praise currently.
You didn’t renew? You should have said sooner. Still hoping that season ticket sales are low or have you accepted that they’re not much lower than last year yet?
So anything bad is Mladen without evidence but anything good is Conor without evidence? Got it. I’ll have to remember that seems a lot easier than having any nuance in opinions.
I am almost sure Conor has stated he has a significant say in who we signing, so why are you saying he doesn’t?
Every head coach has said that. When the team plays badly, people decide they have to say that even though it’s not true. Recruitment is and always has been a team which includes the head coach, recruitment team, CEO/DoF etc.
No, that’s not what i said. I’m sure he does have significant say, but so had every head coach we’ve had. People need to make someone that they’ve decided is bad at their job into the big bad monster without actually understanding what their job is and blame everything bad on them.
As I mentioned in another thread, I suspect that's because Conor has made it clear he won't be happy just to bring any old centre half in, but someone who is the right fit, both football and personality wise.
Problem with Director of Football role is his job is dependent on budget, moving players on, availability and price of other players, whether they want to come or not etc.
Not according to some on here. Some think you can pop down the player shop and get one off the shelf.
No, if you read again I didn’t state that has definitely happened. It’s come from the club that the manager is getting more of a say & we’ve gone from signing punts from abroad last season to players from the English league this time around. Maybe it’s a massive coincidence & Sormaz has suddenly changed his ideas but my guess is Hourihane’s picking the players for the most part.
But the evidence doesn't back that up mate. Last year we signed Roberts, Gent, DKD, Humphrys, Smith & Craig (from memory in Summer). That's forgetting the loan keepers. All English. Mix of experience & youth. January an abnormality because we **** ourselves. A collective failure of the process and leadership from all involved imho, top to bottom. For the record, I think Conor is having more of a say. But I think Clark could've had that say, too. I think Clark had a huge hand in bringing in DKD, just like Conor has had on McGoldrick. It just boils down to the process working better because Conor is clearer and unwavering in the types of players he wants - both physically and attitude wise. I don't think he's the one finding the players but he's doing more homework on those he's presented with - and granted might be throwing a few in the mix.
I’m sorry but significant say is nonsense. I can’t honestly believe that you think Clarke was asking for Nwakali who had never played in England to be signed when we already had a surplus of central midfielders, or that Farrugia who was a winger & hadn’t played at wing back or in England before was Clarke’s choice to be Gent’s competition. Or that Jamal Lewis was the option we needed out wide to give us a plan B who had never played in England play before or that Clement Rodrigues was the striker we needed to contribute towards our play off push. These lads had absolutely nothing to do with our head coach. I would bet everything on it.
I think some of that is correct but I don’t believe that Hourihane is getting more of a say because he’s clearer or anything like that. I think it’s because Sormaz realised his picks have been disasters & his jobs on the line. He’s probably looked at his signings from abroad & the British ones that the managers asked for & realised he needs to let people who know football do their job & pick the players as they know far more than he does.
