Been average first few games. He looks interested but is deep. He looks like he’s actually playing as a number 10 now rather than as a centre forward, which is giving McGoldrick more responsibility.
Him and Dizzy are not on top of their game ,but as long as they keep scoring ,or we win when they dont score i can live with that.
Not concerned if he has a quiet/lean spell as long as he continues to put a shift in, the goals and assists will soon come around again
It doesn’t help he’s being played out of position. He’d be better in the position that Phillips is playing rather than out in the left, especially as DMG also drifts left quite often.
He’s working hard but his touch seems to be letting him down at the minute but I’m sure it will change.
Waste of a shirt again tonight. As he was on Saturday. And at Plymouth until he was moved up front and scored a goal late on. I don't know who told Conor that DKD can play in that inside left position when we're in attack and help out the left back when we're in defence, but he should have seen for himself by now that he can't. We've won again and played some nice football at times so maybe I shouldn't complain. But it just seems like such a waste. A waste of DKD's talent, a waste of talent of players on the bench who could do so much better from that position (Cleary against Fleetwood as a prime example) and a waste of a quarter of the pitch.
He was poor in the first half but I thought he was excellent in the 2nd half. Some lovely touches in the build up to chances that we created. I feel like McGoldrick’s in the space where he often did his best work last season. He’s a good player, he’ll adapt.
I think it worked a bit better because McGoldrick drifted to the left a lot more. There’s far too many times DKD and McGoldrick are stood 5 yards off each other in a straight line with no one for the opposition right back to worry about. If Conor insists on playing Phillips, we need to see DKD and McGoldrick rotating positions a lot more, but with one drifting to the left and then playing 1-2s with each other. They’re both very good football players and I’m sure they can build a good understanding with each other. But it doesn’t have a chance of working if the defenders can see they’re attacking the same space. I’ve attached an average player positions thing where you can see it visualised
It's all part of the plan to put off bids being made. Normal scoring ratio will resume once the window shuts...
I thought DKD was phenomenal off the ball tonight. Worked his socks off and played much more of a midfield role as the game went on, really key to us finishing the game strongly. The fact that CH has got players like him and Phillips working so hard in away games like this is a huge positive. We know their quality and the goals will come. Hopefully another wide man can come in and he can play more centrally, but for now, he’s doing a great job for the team
He had spells like that last year - he disappeared in quite a few games. I'd rather have him in our side though - there's not many that can match his goals and assist over the last few years. Phillips is similar IMO - can do nothing but then grab a goal like he did at Plymouth. There's a few in this league who would love one of those two in their side - we have both at the moment. Off topic - think we have a very special player on our hands with Bland.
I'm a huge fan, either played in centre mid or right back he has done very little wrong and a great deal right with such composure you'd think he was 29 not 19.
I think the difference is Phillips is still getting in the areas and situations where he can make a difference compared to DKD who’s arriving late in the box. As Reds fans pointed out though. The off the ball stuff is the priority and it’s easy for me to say play cleary but if he’s not good enough off the ball we’re a lot more vulnerable. We’ve made great progress to say we’re only 4 games in and that’s the only thing I’ve complained about
