It used to be a saying that in truth belittledthe talent our team had, as if saying all we were was battlers!….but for the second time in 3 league games we have shown great resilience when down to 10 men, felt really proud of the lads when coming out of Oakwell today. I think we have a real chance this season, obviously needs a tweak or two in the defence but overall its looking very promising imo.
Got to agree, coming away from the ground, there were so many more positives than negatives. I think personally a solid centre half and a back up striker ,we could certainly aim for a top 2 finish. Like said in another thread ,speculate to accumulate, if we were in the top 2 by Christmas the crowds would also come back. Fans have been unimpressed with the tippy tappy sideways football. I am very impressed in what CH as acheived so far, long may this continue. Oh and also we look so much more fitter than last season, finishing 2 games a man down. We would have lost both those games last season.
The term ‘Battling Barnsley’ was coined during the 1912 FA Cup winning run due to the amount of replays it took for us to win it. For some reason some BFC fans see it as a negative connotation rather than a positive statement.
Alan Clarke always disliked the term though and I can understand why. It was often said by the media as the only way we could play, and that we didn't have any real quality.
