Loved the Star too. We often got off the 446 bus early on the way back from Barnsley games for a couple in there. Is the Castle Inn still going? That was our regular spot for an early pint before games. The bus to tarn stopped right outside the front door. Their draft Stones was one of the finest pints I've ever tasted. Kept a good cellar there.
Yep still open and a nice pint last time I was in although I’m nearly five years sober so that was before covid. Note Gus always had a nice quiet road home to Notton from three houses down back road
How long ago was that Micky? Is seems like a lifetime ago now, but I managed the Castle Inn and lived there for two years about 30 years ago.
I think I was there about 83/84 (Andy, with my Ex Angie.) Our staff included Bill Osbourne who used the run the Pledwick. The manager before me was a bloke called Barry from Donny. Alec Rioch was the tenant before him. When I left Two girls took over who had been managing the Queens at Thornes. Did you drink there at that time?
Don't recall the names, sorry mate, but yes it was my local for a few years before I went off to Manchester. We lived on South Drive, just off Castle Rd more or less opposite the pub. Jayne McDonald lived a few doors down. She might have popped in for a couple! Met up with the Agbrigg lads for a quick one in there before getting the 446 to tarn for home games. Dragged any family visiting in there for a proper pint.
To be fair, if they have a buy out of 250k and they see that as fair, then they could easily describe any bid under the 250k as derisory. We could have therefore bid 200k and they could still use the same description. We just don't know
What about the best And there lies the problem.. He's no better than we have already. 4 months of shopping and here we are... All the best signings are late in the window don't forget..
I think this ones being looked into too deeply. If anything, I think Goose will be a short term replacement for Roberts. He might only get a deal until the new year. I agree that we should have strengthened more permanently in that area, as has been the case since we lost Kitching and Andersen. I think we are probably looking at a more long term option too. We were linked with a centre half earlier in the window who went elsewhere. There's still time for us to get one in.
Centrebacks are cheaper than strikers, but more likely to make a difference to our final league position. Not sure if Angus is the player he was, but, particularly given all he’s been through, I’d wish the best for him whether at Barnsley or elsewhere.
Exactly how it should be, someone in short term to cover plus one for near future(next year), it’s how the conveyor system should work but have always failed to do so.
I lived at Busy Corner opposite the Forresters from 82–88 used to go in the Castle and Three Houses regularly on a weekend
Conor has confirmed Angus will not be signing for us and we were never interested. At least this thread is a lot shorter than the Koroma one
