My recollection of Gus was that he was frequently beaten in the air from set pieces. Just didn't react quick enough. Having said that, we've hardly got a treasure of riches at the moment in that position.

Why are people moaning...look at the signings so far...all look brilliant...Angus will be great and certainly better than mdg and earl.
The negative people should be buzzing from last night's performance. Surely u can see this group of players will get us promotion

Ticks a lot of boxes because it’s obvious we can’t spend on transfer fees but brings with him plenty of experience and knows the club so it’s a good short term fix to me.

I just think we need someone who has pace and is good in the air. No doubt that Angus fits half that requirement. Take the point about Exeter but to me we need to try and find someone ready for now but also with potential to develop and learn from Roberts. I can see why the club could see an Angus style signing as a good short term option.

I can't argue with any of that, mate. I think in an ideal world, we'd be bringing in a 24ish year old on a 3 year deal that fits that mould. We were linked with Paudie O’Connor earlier in the window so it's definitely a position we've looked at. As a short term fix though, I think we could do worse.

It can be a huge lose for us though, especially when not fully fit, If he makes lots of **** ups bud.

For me, I would stay away. But I have conplete trust in Conor.

Gonna need centre halves in the building. Lopata gone to Bristol Rovers on loan. Didn’t think Clarke was a fan of his

But is he any worse than what we’ve already got? I’m not saying he’s the best defender in the world but I just don’t see him making more defensive mistakes than those we already have. In fact I’d argue with his experience he might be a calming influence on the others.

Plus… if he turns out to be bin juice we only have him on a short term deal.

Conor and I have a similar opinion of MDG. He doesn't see him as centre half where as I don't see him as a footballer.

What about the guy for Fleetwood last night ( Rooney I think) on right side CB, seemed to have a bit of pace and read the game well. Intercepted a few balls that were destined for Cleary.

Their fans rated Earl as their best defender. Now I actually quite like Earl, but we probably need better if we want to be challenging for promotion.

He's probably no worse, no. But shouldn't we be striving for a bit better than that? We're losing £millions each year and it seems to me that stems from massively over filling the squad with punts on players who are probably no worse than we already have.

I haven't seen him for years so I can't really comment on how good a player he is now. He was OK last time we had him, but that was in a higher division and I think, at the time, he would have looked pretty decent at this level. But that was ages ago. If recruitment genuinely think he's a considerable improvement on what we already have then I have no problem with the signing. But if it is a case of probably no worse, might work out, then I hope we don't sign him, because we simply cannot afford that type of signing anymore. I know you can never be certain when signing anyone, but I hope all our signings are because recruitment really believe in the player and expect him to improve the side considerably. If they don't have that belief, carry on with what we've got until we identify such a player.

That's a more accurate description. He does look like a decent player at times, just too many costly mistakes.

Ideally we should be striving for better yeah. But as you say, we’re losing millions each year and the ‘better’ options cost a lot of money, demand high wages and long term deals, and we just don’t have the money for that. This is just a reality of where we are at the moment unless we sell a player or 2 for decent money (which unfortunately won’t be any of the current defence).

He’s an experienced and proven performer at this level and higher. So I wouldn’t call it a punt in this case.

Is he great? No. Is he good enough? Probably yeah. If it is for a few months then it’s a low risk option both financially and ability wise.

In recent years it’s had a bit of a chequered history , burnt down then numerous owners now being run by the people who had the Yorkshire Brasserie , as a drinking pub it’s overshadowed by the success of The Star down the road . As for Gus I’m reliably informed he spent quite a lot of time in there
