If we sign a proper RB before the window closes I'd happily up that..if we also signed a striker I'd start believing again...

Signing quality players at the right price is easy. Just ask most experts on here.

That’s the thing, everyone automatically says we need this we need that (and we do) but because they are not here yet it is only the DoF fault.
As far as any of us know it could be CH that is holding up the recruitment because he will only sign players he wants to have here.
    Lots of moving parts

I dont agree with the rating..so far I'd say 8 out of 10 but it could change up or down this month

He could do better but then so could most of us in our respective jobs. Doesn’t feel like he has the contacts book for me but I’d be delighted if I’m proven wrong. 4.5/10 so far

Question relating to title of original thread.
What's with this modern trend where if you don't like something that somebody is doing you are a 'hater' what happened to just having a different opinion?

I agree, some people on here hate, like or disagree. Opinions are great that's what makes a discussion

It’s impossible for us to judge his performance as we have no way of knowing what his daily brief is and the constraints he has to work within.
On the basis of his CV we’d be hard pressed to employ anyone more suited to the role.
It’s a multi million pound business. If Sormaz isn’t performing and doesn’t have the trust of the owners and manager he’ll be gone.
Let’s cut the guy some slack and let him get on with his job.

In this day and age the coach/manager can’t do a proper job of analysing an and managing all the transfers, agents, loans, talks, contracts, etc. It’s not a waste of a salary.

How good of a footballer do you think you’ll get for £30k a year?

Even a low level league 1 footballer you’re looking at 150-200k.

I’d be absolutely shocked if Sormaz is on anything less than £100k though.

I don't hate the guy, that's too harsh a word, but the fella is all at sea with regards to the job description and has been found wanting trying to fulfill the role, as for marks out of ten I'd give him 2 at best.

That’s a really high rating considering we only have 1x striker, 2x CBs and no RB.

We are heading to game 2 and we already have a makeshift back 4.

If McGoldrick ever gets an injury, we are reliant on DKD (if he stays) to play there even tho his main role suggests he will be tucking in from a wide left position. No real back up CF.

I’m more optimistic about the season after the performance on Saturday whilst also realising that things can quickly bring you back down to earth when you are a Barnsley fan.

My take is it’s a 6/10 window so far.

Move a few on and bring a few in that we “know” will
add quality and then I may budge to a 7 or an 8 out of ten.

    It’s Mladen fanboy time…

I admire your devotion to the great one — but a Mladen hater? Definitely not. A Mladen doubter? Hell yeah.

Personally, I don’t think he should have been appointed in the first place, and his first couple of transfer windows gave me plenty of reasons to feel that way. That said, he now seems to be getting his act together — whether that’s down to growing into the role or letting Conor take more of a lead. Either way, we seem to be operating far more effectively than we were when he was working with Darrell Average.

It’s a start, and hopefully a sign of better things to come. The window’s still open, so I’ll reserve full judgment until it closes, but the direction of travel feels promising. It’ll take more than one solid window to fully win me over, but I do like how the current squad is shaping up — not just for this season, but the next one too.

That said, I still think he needs to be more visible and engage with fans a bit more. Maybe then I’ll dig out the pom poms and join you in the cheerleading troupe.

The January window was so wildly bad that it’s really hard to come back from. The crazy thing about that is that he had the option to not sign anyone - just say ‘we tried but Jan is tough and none of our targets worked out’. Which any rational fan could accept.

Instead? We all know what happened. How much money did we waste? I honestly believe I could have stepped into that role with no experience and done a better job in that window.

I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but it’s still a very really possibility that a 37 year old DM and DKD play together this season less than half a dozen times…..one injury or one deadline day signing……let’s be honest with ourselves, it’s not beyond us to sell DKD for £2.5M with 2 hours of the window left and bring Rodriguez back.

The RB situation is crazy. RB’s are ten a penny.

And, despite this turning into some meme worthy saying - our only ‘sign a striker’ has been an ageing free agent, which we all know Connor was responsible for. Does he have some kind of aversion to negotiating for them?

Does he not believe they exist?

We also don’t know what the deals we did were to get the dead wood out. We could be paying 70% of the wages for Watters and O’Keefe for all we know.

However, in fairness DM is a good signing provided another striker is signed. Other signings also look positive, we haven’t sold anyone of note (for now)

Or centre forward. We have DKD who isn’t really a striker/centre forward and a 37yo David McGoldrick who is still quality on the ball but is he going to play 40 games plus?

He deserves no credit at all. He's presided over a few windows now and wasted loads of money on utter kak. This current window, if I read things correctly, its Hourihane not Sormaz who has been key to any decent bodies coming in. Just because someone is a nice guy and talks a good game doesn't mean they're any good. Sack Sormaz and leave the recruitment entirely up to the coach (or get someone in who knows what they're doing). Sormaz is and has been a big drain on the finances of the club. He's one of the causes of constant cash injections. Sack him and save money.

Does anybody actually hate him? I just think he’s a bit **** at his job.

I’ve said it before but I can cope with bad signings or certainly bad luck with signings but when you can’t even get enough players in to fill one position but then have too many in other positions then you are as far as I’m concerned incompetent.

It’s a strange time to post this as well given its mid window & we have no idea who will be kept & know very little about any of the new signings apart from the keeper & McGoldrick.

Last seasons business was a disaster. I’ll revisit this in a couple of months.
