If we are within a shout of the playoffs with 5 games to go I think that’ll constitute a decent season with foundations to build on.
Same as me then. I don’t think it’s a top six squad, but that’s what success looks like to me. Neerav talked absolute cobblers. I don’t think even @Brian Mahoneys Waist thought it was a top four squad and he’s about as optimistic as they come!
I really hope Hourihane does well and gets us a top 6 finish, but got doubts he his the man tbh, he didn’t even get the supposedly new manager bounce when he first got the job, took him 8 games to get the win that our board we’re hoping he would, so they could give him the job permanently. But as you say he has been given more say on matters than Darryl Clarke was ever given, so he needs to improve on last year’s performance, and significantly so in my eyes.
I've gone top two. Hourihane has had ten games last season with a failed Play-Off push (bearing in mind we were closer when sacking Clarke). He's had a pre-season, retained his better players and brought in some additions. If we aren't challenging questions should be asked. If we end the window with DKD, Russell and Phillips having made additions and changed the playing style Hourihane will have it all on him.
Will he be sacked if lying outside the play offs close to the end of the season or in the play offs but playing boring football? Maybe a free pass from the family?
I think we’ll struggle but that’s because I think two of DKD, Phillips, Russell & Connell will leave. I think they should be aiming for top 6 if they keep all of them but I think that would be a minor miracle given our financial predicament. I’ll make a prediction at the end of the transfer window.
I’d say top 6 would be a successful season. Yes we have constraint’s, but so do most in this league and there are some absolute babba teams imho. Clarke was gash, he couldn’t run a bath, get them fit and committed and you could get last years team in top 6 easy. Is this team better or worse? Well it’s not got any worse so far in terms of players in/out.
Th worrying thing is that the incoming manager performed significantly worse than the outgoing manager
I see Conor being as successful as both Alan Clarke and Danny Wilson were in their first stints in charge.
If so they're wasted years in League 1. Hourihane gets us promoted, some backing then flirting with top ten Championship. He's off to Aston Villa or Derby in a jiffy.
To be fair mate, there was no evidence for Clarke or Wilson either, neither had managed before us. We can only hope. Its always better a legend leading us to 'glory', but if it is a shambles, we need to be ruthless not sentimental.
Dont think that's just hourihane though mate. If someone got us promotion then flirting with top 10 in champ, I think most would be off. Unless miraculously we had a **** tonne of money...
