I don't think it's disgusting behaviour, it's commonplace. When I handed in my notice to join the firm I'm currently at my old firm offered me a raise above what I'd been offered and provisionally accepted by the new firm. So I went back to the new firm, told them about it and asked if they would match it, and they did.

Whilst that assumption may apply to some it doesnt apply to everyone and a wage of that description could set you up for life.

I assume you didn't have some sort of intermediary with you, who you pay a percentage of your wage to? Who will have sat you down prior to speaking to your proposed new employer and devised a strategy to string them along to make you an offer with the specific instruction to pull out at the 11th hour unless they increase their offer did you?

Asking for or holding out for more money isn't an issue at all. How you do it absolutely is.

I would certainly be set up for life if at 37 I’d have earned roughly £17k per month for ten years. I live by being a tight Yorkshireman. Short hands and deep pockets. Taught well by my grandfavva, as @Hooky feller would know, my grandfavva is a tight git!

The problem with a lot of Football players is they grow used to a lifestyle so when they earn less they don't want to cut back, so the cash soon dwindles away.

I wonder how much of a factor the perception of the club is when attracting players. Orient look to have offered less money but they appear to be a club that are going places. They’ve got stable management and have finished higher every season recently. It’s the complete opposite of the situation at Oakwell. We appear to be falling down the league and constantly changing manager scrambling to get traction. What Orient have built is what we need to get to. Or maybe he just fancied going back to London.

If you were told a player had passed a medical, agreed terms, and already performed media duties, would you not also assume it was a done deal?

Obviously things didn’t go to plan, but it’s hardly a made up story.
