What a great advert for test cricket. India must wonder what they have to do to win a test after that performance.
I always knew it was a great idea to bowl first in searing heat on a flat track on day one. Great captaincy from Stokes .
It’s almost like Baz McCullum and Ben Stokes know what they’re on about. Ridiculous win when you think about it, there’s a reason we don’t see chases like this very often but this side certainly fully believe they can do it. I’m delighted for them. Hopefully this more sensible version of Bazball is here to stay because it’s bloody good.
Crazy game, swung one way and then the other, then back again and repeat. But once again Headingley produces a brilliant match, with a great England performance and, most importantly, a win. Yet we’re not getting another Ashes game this decade.
Not sure I agree he played anchor. He had plenty of plays and misses - it was a 60 from a man v out of form. If he doesn't score quickly I'm not sure what point he plays in the team.
Really pleased for him, have a soft spot for him based purely on his name and tbh without that score we'd have been beaten easily!
Catches win matches and India will rue some of those misses! A great match, Ben Duckett immense but for Pant to get a century in each innings and still lose must be gutting !
Well i was like Victor Meldrew ,when we won the toss and elected to bowl on the first day ,on a cracking run scoring wicket with little cloud. Wtf , I need to stick to blow football. Leave the decisions to Ben Stokes ,what a legend. Cracking win ,turning test cricket upside down. Wonder what Sir Geoff thought winning a test match with a six .
What do I know eh? I know Stokes loves a run chase but when Imdia were 430-3 on day 2 who saw this coming. Credit also to Josh Tomgue for fighting back in both Indian innings causing 2 big collapses of 7 for 41 and 6 for 31.
What's the highest aggregate runs scored by a team to lose a test match The highest aggregate runs scored by a team to lose a Test match is 861 runs. This was achieved by England against Australia at Headingley in 1948. Here's a breakdown of some of the highest aggregates for losing teams: 861 runs - England vs Australia, Headingley, 1948 847 runs - Pakistan vs England, Rawalpindi, 2022 837 runs - New Zealand vs England, Trent Bridge, 2022 835 runs - India vs England, Headingley, 2025 (this was a very recent match where India also became the first team to lose a Test despite scoring five centuries in the match)
