totally agreed - great for England matches (of all sports), and if BarnsleyFC ever did anything good again that could be broadcast.
I assume that the decision not to put a big screen up on the wall must be linked to the failure of the big screen that Rotherham put up a few years ago and then took it down due to cost and picture quality plus a lack of regular programming about 4 years later. I do wonder if maybe the fact that the cinema wall is on the east of the square had any bearing on the decision because it would mean the sun shining on it in evenings
I’ve seen that the Tipi isn’t coming back this year, apparently that’s down to the council or Glassworks not the folk who run the tipi bars.
Good. Taking money from permanent bars. Portable bogs and diesel generators too; not particularly good environmentally, especially when in an urban environment.
Don’t worry it’s coming back in the winter and I mean I’m flying to Greece soon on a big bad aeroplane and I’ll be getting to the airport in my diesel car, I’ll also hopefully be having quite a few bbqs throughout the summer (fingers crossed) so me personally can’t really bang on about the environment
I wonder if one of these is the one in town. On the odd occasion I've been in, it's been dead. https://www-bbc-co-uk.cdn.ampprojec...0312281&csi=0&referrer=https://www.google.com
River island in town is the most disappointing shop I've ever been in. When they were opening it I was quiet excited because it's rare to actually have a kens clothing shop. Went in, they had about 3 tshirts and a pair of jeans in stock. No ta. They've for some reason decided to not put anything in the shop and just have lots of open space with no clothes.
Yeah, it's not a great offering. I just put it down to me getting older and them not catering as much for me. But I agree it's quite sparse in the men's side. It's strange because from memory, the shop is split 50/50 men's and women's, but as you say, the men's side is pretty empty. Maybe they'll end up doing away with men's clothes altogether like New Look did in their shops.
I go in the meadowhall one quite often. I don't buy much but I go in because it's nice to be able to look at a fairly large selection of clothes. Been in the Barnsley one once and I'll never go in again. Which is sad because I go into town a lot now and just walk straight past. I agree they'll probably get rid of the men's section completely. Primark in town might as well too. 3 square miles of clothing racks for women and a cardboard box labelled men's shoved in the back corner
Yeah went in RI once absolutely awful all men’s stuff had Tokyo plastered over it wouldn’t be seen dead in any of it.
For anyone else who found this a hard read (I want facts not BS and filler), I copied into Gemini and it summed it up with the below. "Barnsley Council plans to combine two units (SU11 and SU12) in The Glass Works shopping centre into one larger space. This is to attract a specific unnamed national retailer that has shown interest. These units are currently used for temporary displays and storage. The council is also expanding a smaller retail kiosk (K05) using leftover space from The Fragrance Shop's unit (SU13). The public consultation on these plans ends on July 7."
It’s too small for that. I’ve not heard much recently but suspect the most likely scenario will be someone moving there so they can vacate the Alhambra. I’d seen Hotel Chocolat recruiting for a ‘Barnsley’ store but that’s actually opening at Cortonwood.
