I had to Google Arron Davies, absolutely no recollection of him whatsoever, from a time where I was still writing lineups and league tables in the back of my German Textbook.

    Was ambivalent about Humphry's.

In our current position, I feel he was a luxury we can ill afford.

Only downside, is the team now lacks 'ink'. We'll probably need a couple of players to compensate.

Yeah but we're replacing someone who is entirely forgettable. It's not like we've now got a bucketload of goals to replace. It won't be hard to find someone as equally bang average for a lot less money.

Minded losing Norwood more. I'm not sure he's worth paying more for, he did have some memorable moments but lacked consistency. I suppose we'll find out soon enough how big a mistake or not we've made!

And in his last 22 games for Wigan the season before he scored twice.

I'd probably go for Norwood again as a bit part player. Bring the young lads on and teach the dark arts

Humphrys arrived without a preseason and was unfit. He eventually got up to speed before being ill which set him back. In the last 10 games of the season he decided that he wanted to play and was played as a winger which is his 'preferred position.' There were times in the season he looked disinterested and not that bothered. However he will need to be replaced as our forward position looks weak as Jalo is injured and Watters cannot finish. Time is running out and we need to make some signings...

Bit part being the operative word.

Don’t worry, I have a feeling Georgie Gent will look like a Humphrys clone by the time he’s back from his injury.

The thing that baffles me is we’re supposed to give Hourihane a free pass for the last few games as they were ‘dead rubbers’ but at the same time we’re supposed to believe Humphrys has suddenly improved significantly as a player at age 27 by scoring in these ‘dead rubbers’. It doesn’t make sense. You can’t have it both ways.

I wouldn't mind him being this season's Hourihane of last year - as long as the board are truthful about it. Get him as a player/coach

I feel it's far too early to write off Gent.

He's a young player making his way in the game. Unfortunately, he had a head coach who - for whatever reason - doesn't back young players.

I hope he comes back from his injury stronger and proves to be a success.

However, your scepticism could be merited but I'd rather judge him after seeing play under a more open minded head coach.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here or maybe I worded it wrong.

I like Georgie Gent and I think, maybe in flashes, he had some good spells last season. I think he has a lot of potential too and could go on to be a top championship player.

My “Humphrys clone” comment was more in terms of looks with him now sporting a similar haircut, beard and his tattoo collection growing. I guess that maybe is a footballer thing rather than just Humphrys but I remember second half of last season thinking a couple of times how they now look quite alike from afar.

Conor had been doing his coaching badges for a couple of years leading up to coming back to us, and travelling the country talking to coaches. He played 40 odd times in League 1 the season before too. As far as I'm aware, Norwood isn't doing anything like that, and couldn't nail down a regular place in the National League last season.

Personally, I don't get our fans admiration for Norwood. He did a job for a season, that's it.

Mixed feelings about Humphrys. On one hand, I think he’s a very good player. Confident, great feet and a shithouse. The kind of player I’d want in my side if he was consistent and always used in his best position.

On the other hand, he’s had a lot of clubs, so maybe it was maybe a stretch to expect him to stay beyond his initial term.

Must admit I’m a bit disappointed he’s gone to Bradford, and also that they are another promoted club that could have more financial muscle and/or intent than us for the coming season.
Our play off seasons are behind us for now, and it’s awful to see other clubs overtaking us as we struggle.

On the other hand, haven't we got Andy Dallas on the books still? 4 games for us since signing in 2023 and over 50 for clubs we've loaned him out to. No wonder the finances are so poor at Oakwell.
