Problem with things like this s that players then become too selfish and start shooting from everywhere, even when other players are in much better positions.

Yeh, I mean we signed him when he didn't have a club after his big wedge move to the championship fell through, probably paid him a decent wage and helped him through an illness and back to full fitness, playing him quite a lot when his performances didn't warrant him getting picked, only for him to turn around at the end of the season and say thanks for the help but fvck off, someone's going to pay me more.

I don't think it's harsh to judge him at all, imho

'Stephen, if you do well for us and score 15 goals we'd like the option to add another year on automatically at these wages. Do you wanna sign?'

    'Yeah sound'

'Stephen, you only scored ten. We want you, but think you're worth this for two years'.

'No thanks, I'll sign for Bradford'.

    'Cheers lad all the best'.

From what I saw he was very limited.

Get that.. but what concerns a few on here is his replacement. Will he be a better than a 9 in 37 forward..?

I give you Max Watters who we still employ's record of 12 in 81..And of course our old mate Mr Rodriguez, who came in our last window don't forget. Who actually looked like he'd won a competition to be a professional footballer for 3 months. If that's the standard then 'Houston we have a problem'

So please forgive us who would sooner have kept a 'journeman forward' at least for another year. Mainly because we fear our own recruitment teams choice of replacement.

That’s fine. Add an assist bonus.

I agree with that but isn't that the club chose not to take up the option of extending the contract rather than couldn't because conditions hadn't been met?

As a player what do you look for, apart from money, when you consider which club you'll play for?
In Humphry's case it was a choice between Barnsley's library-like, seven thousand whining moaning minnies or Bradford's 18000 full ground with probably a far better atmosphere.
Surely players respond to bigger, noisier crowds. What incentive is there to play in front of a half empty miserable ground?
    Or is it just money?

He definitely scored at Oakwell, I remember that. I can't remember his celebration. I remember him being absolutely dogger in the play-offs.

Not a huge loss, admittedly we need a replacement etc etc
Let’s not forgot the vast times he looked a bit lardly and didn’t care which was often
Looked interested last few games…a bit mercenary in attitude
Three clubs in three years…..speaks for itself

I thought it was interesting in one of the last interviews, Conor said Humphreys had done well for him but he was only lasting 60 minutes and he needed to work on his fitness if he was gonna fit in with the style he wanted to play.

I don't think he's a great loss. No clubs were after him when we signed him and he's not exactly upgraded now

Could be either way, I doubt it is actually a goal target either as there are too many variables but usually it is in place for a player to achieve x, y & z. Appearances is a common one as an example given to a player with injury history.

Humphreys record of 9 in 39 is pretty similar to that of Adam Phillips.. and some think he's a 2 million pound player..
Phillips last season.. 9 in 39.
    23/24.. 12 in 45
    22/23.. 8 in 41.
So the reality is the lazy overweight journeyman who we ain't bothered about moving to Bradford.. Stats wise after DKD was our joint second most important player last season..

There’s a massive difference. Phillips is a midfielder who spent most of the season playing wide. Humphrys has spent most of his career playing as a centre forward yet a large chunk of our fans have convinced themselves that he was somehow hindered by playing there.

Scoring less than 1 in 4 with players like DKD, Phillips & Russell supplying him is pretty dire really.

157 games as a striker, Humphrys. 57 played on the flanks. You’re spot on. You’d think he’d played the Martin Bullock role for 10 years and we bizarrely asked him to be Paul Wilkinson.

As for anyone trying to compare him with Phillips, dear oh dear. That kid averages a goal or assist every other game. Across three seasons. As a centre mid who is more often than not, literally played out of position on the right.

Good luck to Humphrys at Bradford. He’ll be remembered similarly to Arron Davies, Craig Rocastle and Fola Onibjue.
