There short staffed mainly due to the fact that no one wants to do it. Attacks on staff are at a all time high, they put the starting pay up a few years ago but they still struggle to get staff. Lad who I went to school with did it then left after been attacked on more than one occasion. As for the mental health again drugs and alcohol dependency also are massive contributors to mental health problems. And the bulk of prisoners you speak about locked up for low grade crimes like theft etc mostly have issues with addiction so rehabilitation is based on getting rid of that. Unfortunately a passport won't help that too much.
I think that you may be mixing up a travel passport with a resettlement passport. They are different things.
Because the poster who brought this up just put "passport". And he obviously thinks that's what Joe Criminal should get. And the "resettlement passport" I believe had a different name to kick off with and I did not know that it now (confusingly) attracted the term "passport"
https://x.com/Keir_Starmer/status/1926528114412093889 Over the years I think new build housing has been thrown up too fast and been substandard in many cases. Fining builders for not building fast enough etc is not a good idea.
It will lead to more corner-cutting, so to speak. The standard of the brickwork on a lot of new builds that I've seen recently have been well below par! Having done site work for several years I've seen it all.
Would it not be possible to create an Id. Without the need for a driving license or passport. To open a bank account. Just asking.? We are all given an NHS number at birth and NI number around 16. Not saying everyone has one or both. And shouldnt be disclosed for privacy. But surely a system. Can be developed. ?. Although it does say this. If you are experiencing homelessness, you can still open a basic bank account with the help of local charities and some banks that offer "no fixed address" accounts. These accounts are designed to help those without a permanent address to receive payments, access benefits, and manage their finances.
"Approximately 16% of the UK population is composed of foreign nationals, according to 2021 Census data. This includes individuals born outside the UK, regardless of their current nationality. A more recent ad-hoc estimate suggests around 18% of the population of England and Wales are non-UK born, including EU-born and non-EU born residents." So foreign nationals are significantly under-represented in UK prisons. Interesting.
There is a system in place already where every prisoner due to be released can open a bank account and that the id problem is solved by allowing prison officers to verify their identity. Or something like that. Problem is they don't all want to use it
Same with the illicit use of drugs if you look at the stats. Which probably gives those figures more weight.
Too fast? Let's play 'Spot the homeowner'! Seriously, though. It's certainly low quality (and expensive), but it's also definitely not fast. The idea here is to get builders to move land on rather than banking it - there's no way they could legally throw up anything worse than they currently do. I suspect that they'll run up against a shortage of trades issue though.
Yes your right, will only lead to more corner cutting. Quantity over quality. Just because he made unrealistic house building targets in his manifesto then blame the house builders when they fail.
I don't think I've seen you criticize starmer or labour once. You always come across very defensive. I'm just not sure pressuring main contractors to build houses faster is the right way to go. Especially when you've promised numbers that are unrealistic.
They aren't planning on pressuring anyone to build them faster in general. They're talking of focusing on those who, as part of planning permission, agree to build x amount of affordable housing in order to get permission to build a lot of expensive homes. They then build the expensive ones and delay building the affordable housing for years and years and years because they don't care about people just profits. Rule I would make is that until EVERY home in the planning permission is built then the developer can't sell any homes. That would make them get a move on
Which is as always a cracking politician's answer. This particular news story is about trying to force developers not to smirk their responsibility to build affordable homes.
