After reading a few posts about this fella and some not even renewing because of him I'm intrigued at such angst. He's been here just over 12 months I think and the main arguement appears to be the January window. The window in fairness was very poor from a supporters point of view ,we all want more transfer activity to push us on.Both Mladen and Nereev said we worked within our budget which appears not to have been too much having said that we missed out on a couple of targets for various reasons. I didn't agree with bringing "bodies in "to fill the squad when for example we could have kept Marsh to be on the bench. What I don't understand is some saying they won't renew while he's still here. He's not killed anybody he's not violently attacked anybody nor issued any personnal attacks on anyone. The January window wasn't totally down to him its already been explained by the chairman the reasons why. What about a clean slate for everybody. We're in a new era with Conor his staff and signings to come.Mladen has already said he feels the pressure because he puts on himself to do better.I say lets give him a chance moving forward. One bad window doesn't make him the devil reincarnated.
My thoughts exactly. It makes me laugh how people are deducing that one of the backroom staff or one of the coaches is rubbish and needs sacking, when we have no clue what they are doing day to day. In Mladen’s case we don’t know what he’s been told from above and from the coaching team. We don’t know which players we’ve targeted and whether any transfers have fallen down because we can’t afford the transfer fee or the player’s wage demands. Or if the player just doesn’t want to play for Barnsley. We know we don’t have a great deal of money and that the owners have been putting millions every year though. This can’t go on indefinitely. As well as wanting good players brought in, a big gripe from Reds fans is that we lose our best players every window. But over the last few windows we have kept our better players, apart from those out of contract. People seem to be forgetting this. Regarding the January just gone, whilst it was great we kept hold of our best players, a couple of the transfers were a bit unnecessary. But to expect us to sign a ‘proven goalscorer’ at League One level was a bit of a fantasy. Clubs don’t want to let these players go, unless they get offered the kind of money we can’t afford. Bringing Rodriguez in smelled of desperation, hoping to pacify the fans. Considering many Reds fans were on DKD’s back at the start of the season, calling him a waste of money, the club were also in fantasyland. But we now have a young head coach who’s desperate to do well and who seems to know what he wants. As the head coach gets the sign off on players coming in, I would hope the standard of new arrivals will improve. But for us to bring decent players in the club needs money, so holding off on renewing your season ticket till you see who comes in seems a bit daft really.
He gets the abuse because it was evident that he was choosing the transfers with no involvement with clarke. The only way he will improve relations with the fans is by coming out and saying conor will have a massive say in who the club signs.
He also doesn't help himself refusing to do interviews and when he does he says one thing and clarke said the opposite. Until we sign decent players his reputation won't improve. The club need to change the model. That's why Warne turned us down and conor got the job because no other manager wants to work in these conditions
I'm not sure why the need to resurrect this topic again unless you are personally being tasked with driving ST sales. The people not renewing were told not to have a go at people who chose to renew, which is fair enough but equally the people choosing not to renew shouldn't have their opinions used as a stick to beat them with for not renewing. Fairs fair Brian
He tried to pull the wool over supporters eyes over the positions the players he signed played in and was found out to be lying within a couple of hours by a few fans doing Google searches. That says it all about the man.
I hold my hand up as one who criticises Sormez. Here's why. Accepting he hadn't been in post long he oversaw Collins go. He then oversaw Clarke go and as already said he sang from a different songsheet to our Manager. He won't engage with the fans, he only does pre scripted interviews and has picked who interviews. He has bloated the squad, paying 30 players wages but claiming we've no funds ( I won't mention January) On the day we sacked Clarke he was on the media dictating what type and style of football we will be playing but surely we needed to look at who wants the job 1st. As Biddy37 said he probably cost us Warne who would want to play his way with his players. Can't understand the board, putting funds in while this guy spends them on rubbish. If they're serious about the budget save wages and sack this bloke or at least only agree signings if the Manager agrees with them. You only need to read the retained list to appreciate how out of control the staffing is........ ( And it doesn't include the coaching staff) Only my opinion, happy to be proved wrong when the new signings start..
If you think he's 'having a go' at people not renewing in that post, I think you should read it again mate.
"When you look at the core of the team, when everyone’s fit, defence is really strong." Case closed, guilty beyond all reasonable doubt, send him down.
Not my intension to tell anybody what to do.I haven't resurrected anything. The hatred towards Sormez is daily and i don't fully understand it,but each to there own.
I'm sorry but no one can honestly defend Sormaz. It's no coincidence that since he arrived in January 2024 we've gone backwards at an alarming rate. If we'd had the good sense to terminate his employment straight after the Reading game (or when Clarke left) I'm sure we'd have ended up with 2000 more season ticket renewals. Huddersfield were in a similar situation with a clueless Sporting Director. They've acted and got rid, ours is still hanging around ready to do more damage. I've faith in Conor but it's who I fear is pulling the strings above him that worries me.
Maybe me saying having a go is harsh agree, Just seems like another rallying cry that's been done to death, if sure if you could be bothered (I cant) to look back then there's many of these "just get behind em" type posts.
I had many a fall out with Michael spinks but never thought of not renewing because of him. Do you think 13/14 months is enough to judge a man whos under financial restraints?
Yes, I do. He didn't solve the obvious problems last summer and January was a disaster of epic proportions. Other clubs in L1 have a budget a lot less than ours but seem to be recruiting far better. It seems we're stuck with him for now but this next window absolutely has to be his last chance. If he gets this one wrong he HAS to go.
How do you know he has got it wrong? What was the remit given to him by the board? What was the budget given? we all have opinions but I doubt anyone on here can actually answer these questions.
If, and it’s a definite IF, Sormaz has as much influence over the playing side as many have suggested then it’s clearly wrong. Why on earth should any administrator at ANY club have a say in who gets signed or leaves, and how the team plays? We’ve got professional football people to look after all that. Our current man in charge has international caps and extensive premier league experience so it makes no sense at all letting anyone else interfere. Or maybe none of us have a clue about the internal politics of the club. Let’s just see how the next few weeks go shall we?
