Bradford fire

Despite it's heartbreaking topic, this video is an interesting watch. Great stories of brave and selfless behaviour. Also emotional contributions from ex red Neil Redfearn. (contains some distressing scenes as you'd imagine)

 

Fantastic documentary on BBC 2 last night about Bradford City and the fire. Well worth a watch. The H&S stuff clubs got away with back then seems unthinkable now.

Yes, I watched it. Powerful, humbling stuff. Terrible tragedy.

 

Yes it was very humbling indeed, I remember participating in a sponsored bed push from Pontefract to Valley Parade to raise funds towards the appeal.
I also played in a band with Matt, the guy with the perm. He’s a really nice guy and it’s a miracle he’s still here to tell his story.

John hendry was laiking for bradford and Neil Redfearn for lincoin that day.

 

He seemed a nice bloke. They said he was the last one pulled out of the stand to survive.

 

I knew Hendrie was playing for Bradford but never knew Redfearn was there that day with Lincoln.

 

I’ve heard Redfearn talk about it in great detail a couple of times while doing after dinner speeches and both times he got really emotional

 

Darren Wright, the current H&S fella who featured a lot; we were in the same year at school. Obvious nickname - Lefty.
He became a ref in his 20s, Bradford Sunday Alliance / West Riding County Amateur. Jeez, you think EFL refs are bad.

I remember doing a collection at work, in the week after the fire. (Fence workshops) Wendy. Utd. Rotherham and Barnsley fans. We raised £200+ which was a fair sum in those days. Circa £800 today. From such a small workforce. The mood on that first day back after the fire was one of overwhelming sadness.

 

I’m sure Redders mentioned that he had Bradford supporting relatives in the stands at the game in his book.
