Very good piece in the chron. today. With Hourihane. Mindful of the financial situation. But come what may. Will deal with the issue. Would love DKD to stay. And has made several enquiries himself to players he would like to bring in. Sooner rather than later to get a squad together. I get the impression he has more choice rather than the stats./spreadsheet. I can't seem to post a link as I get the epaper. I'm guessing someone with X might, if the article is on there. ? Apparantly the club estimate a £10m loss. As stands. Also Doug O'kanes player assessments over the season. I find more or less spot on with all.
£10m loss is mind boggling. That’s why I really don’t see DKD stopping. Something has to give as you have to think that the owners won’t just continue to throw money in.
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/31879/hourihane-its-my-job-to-put-a-decent-squad-together At least we've got a manager in place before the end of June and don't have the playoffs as a distraction.
It does say. (Nareev previously said) We will have to sell. To offset projected losses. How much they are willing to keep stumping up as equity. Your guess is as good as mine D. Also which surprised me a little was Gilks was only contracted to the summer. ?
He wants some former team mates. I always knew Sormaz had it in him to bring Jack Grealish to Oakwell.
Hope it’s different this time and we recruit early, not confident we will though, Clarke asked for exactly same last year and we waited till last minute.
Then surely the majority must be from off field decisions. Factor in player sales and average home attendances of 12200 it has to be bad off field decisions rather than anything else.
The only explanation which springs to mind is that some very ordinary players have been/are being paid far too much money. Unfortunately, this is a problem now which besets the whole of professional football in this country.
I can’t get my head round it tbh. Must admit that the retained list showed just how many players we have/had, seemed way too many for a third tier club. Still shouldn’t add up to a £10m loss though.
Too many punts on long-shots, hangover from the American carpet blagger and his destructive running of the club?
What I find frustrating is that the club have stopped doing the fans meetings with JAQ and the CEO...the fans deserve a Q&A night.
Squads too big. Two players in each position supplemented with youth. Anything else is surplus to requirements. For example if we're playing 4-4-2 we don't need five centre backs.
My concern is we need a defence of better quality...let's hope Shepherd and Lopata are good enough cos at present MDG, Roberts and Earl have been poor defensively
