White shorts and getting rid of the song - completely agree. One other thing I’d like to happen next season is an end to the automatic booing if we lose or are losing at half-time even. I know it’s not just us and have even heard Arsenal fans booing at a defeat this season, but it’s every time now. I’m not saying performances don’t deserve criticising, because a lot of our home performances have been well below par, but I fail to see how the constant booing will improve things. Next season is going to be tough. We are undoubtedly going to lose some, or all, of our best players and don’t have the money to sign players we can guarantee will work out. We have a first time manager who we know will be working tirelessly to give us a winning team and attractive football to watch, but due to the turnover of players it may take some time. Us fans need to display some patience and support. Let’s not forget that many were saying DKD was a waste of money a month or so into this season.
If things dont get any better I'd play the funeral march as the stadium music (or anything by Leonard Cohen). I would have the players in an aluminum or tin foil strip to blind the opponents and crowd from realising how shi.te we are. If we do end up being better at home I'd have some tune that resonates, is known and is bouncy. As to the strip - Red shirt minimum with no fancy bollux to it coupled with white shorts and either white or red socks. Bottom line though is that the team is good. If its more kak I stand by my first two sentences.
Does anybody really think this season would have been any better if we'd been wearing white shorts? I'm an old timer and I really don't give a toss what colour shorts we wear, I go to watch football not a fashion parade. I don't remember anybody complaing about red shorts at Wembley 2000. And I'm not convinced too many people would have complained about the bloody shorts now if we'd won the first six games in them.
We already have a funeral march played. It comes on just before Timerider and it is absolute *****. Apparently its from a film. Country Roads is fine by me as is Hey Jude and I dont care who else might sing them. Ponty End may as well stop singing if that is a criterion cos most of their chants sre not bespoke.
That’s a bizarre argument to make. If the safety officer were concerned about a bloke in a large Dog outfit antagonising fans by pretending to score a goal, he must be apoplectic when a player scores an actual goal, and celebrates in front of the opposition fans.
There was one game in the middle of the season when it was clearly someone who was about 4ft in there. Watching him walking pitch side alongside the wall in front of the East Stand, it was clear whoever it was couldn't see a bloody thing and was being led by the hand by someone, like a blind man with a stick. I don't know about getting him to score in front of the away fans - on that particular day he had all on walking without falling head first down the stairs.
I wouldn’t mind if they even played the dance version of Country Road - might actually help get the place going. But the original song - albeit good, is just too slow a beat. Not exactly inspirational…… Kit I’m not bothered - don’t mind the Red shorts. Prefer black to be honest. Nice to have a change, as quite often if the home shirt is boring,I don’t bother buying it. Saying that, I’ve not bought a single item from the club shop since my son’s pre-ordered GK kit never turned up the other year. That was a shambles, and the fact it was pre-ordered and not a single apology means my merchandise money gets spent at another club instead now.
Think that’s right. Biggest crowd at Oakwell in modern history that day. North Stand was actually properly sold out and brimming out….. step forward Toby!
Yep one of my favourite games at oakwell we won 2-1 jon Curtis and hignett scored. We were both battling for 2nd spot in the division. Back when man city were a proper football club.
Great point. I can’t ever imagine buying a shirt. I’ve a retro one from the season I first started going in 1988/89. That’s all I need. So I’m not the market they’re aiming them at.
Yes back when our west stand could accommodate away fans.... It's weird that Toby used to be able to run from the half way line and put the ball in the net perfectly fine. But now he can't even walk without an helper alongside him.
Don’t think City fans were in the West that day - just the full North Stand at circa. 6,500. Only time it’s ever been at full capacity. That day was rocking - remember it well.
