I too was there, aged 23 but still running around like a teenager lol. I think the attendance that day was about 12,500 (ish)

    Yes mate

Though older fans will remember we didn’t win at Millmoor between 1938 and 1980 when a Derrick Parker goal secured a 1-0 win in the FA Cup

15659 including very few away fans.

Had to look it up, of course, unlike the incredible Big Lil, who knows all this stuff by heart

The current lot would probably record that attendance as a touch over 48,000 and the ground only holds 23,000

My recollection of when Glavin missed the penalty he then scored with a free kick. I also remember talking to him about it in the Wilthorpe Hotel on the evening after the game.

I seem to recall that King Ronnie played as a striker that day and this was the outcome - a hat trick. What a versatile player he was. Had the dribbling skills of a winger; the passing skills (short and long) of a central midfielder and the scoring skills of a striker. Happy memories, but I was doing field work on the Dorset coast that day and picked up the final score on my tranny. One of my mates on the course was a Newport County fan and was totally gutted by the score and reckoned that it didn't reflect the balance of play. Bad loser!!

Oooops..yes you're right, I was getting mixed up with the game in 1968 when we were promoted from division 4, which was 4-2 in front of 12,323. My memory is not what it was!

Must have been a different game Gimmer or the free kick was disallowed - finished 2-0

Still the best game I've been to, fantastic atmosphere and a dazzling display from The Reds, difficult to pick anyone out but Barrowclough produced some wonderful wing play.

I can remember this as one of the few times my Mum came with us to a game. We stood on the kop and my Dad bought me a flag.

    Happy days.

Yes but it's scary being at a game in the last century, and realizing just how old you now are!

Just looked it up and it was April 7th 79/80 season when Glavin scored in a 1-1 draw. He’d earlier missed a penalty.

That could have been the penalty miss I had in mind mate - maybe it wasn’t in the other game.

Memories, eh! I still think Big Trev’s first against Brighton was scored from near the Dove.
