Thinking about going to Raith Rovers last game of the season away to Queens park, who play at Hampden Park Friday night. Still chance of last play off spot. As anyone got any tips of places to stop over close to stadium and city for a few beers after . Me and my son driving up . Thanks in anticipation.
Don't think there's any accommodation near the ground so stop in the centre of Glasgow and get a cab in
I thought they played in that little smaller stadium at side of the real Hampden Park? Just a heads up in case you were expecting the national stadium....
In town, the following might be worth investigating: Drum and Monkey (Nicholson's pub with good real ale selection) link The Horseshoe (Glasgow institution and serves Landlord) link Sloans (decent pub with outdoor seating) link The Pot Still (best whisky bar in Glasgow) link The Wetherspoons are pretty decent and in impressive buildings but are usually mobbed: The Counting House link Crystal Palace link Let me know if you want something a little more hip or theme specific If you've never drank in Glasgow before try the Horseshoe and the Pot Still though I might be in the former for a few after a concert. I've never drank around Hampden so can't recommend anywhere but I used to hear good things about the Clockwork Bar which serves real ale link
Horseshoe a great pub with character. And there is a strip club across the street. If you were at all interested
Regarding accommodation, I'd probably just look at the usual budget hotels. My folks use these when they come up to Glasgow and they're not bad. Premier Inn Travelodge Ibis Also, as a heads up, we have a LEZ (Low Emissions Zone) in the city centre. Details are here link
Was looking at the ibis but never considered the LEZ , hybrid is fine but diesel would incur costs ,again thanks for heads up. Love the bbs
I was up there a couple of weeks ago, playing at the Football Centre over the road from Hampden. We stayed Premier Inn City Centre South - perfectly good £8 a night parking though. We went to Piper Bar in the city centre which was pretty good. Also at at Mediterraneo - again decent. It was a short drive to Celtic Park and Hampden . I reckon £10-£15 in a taxi. I also took the chance to visit Ibrox - as football grounds go it’s so impressive. Definitely worth a look and not too far.
Is it 1st time seeing him up there Baz. Livingstone will be going all out I reckon to beat Partick. Only 1 goal separates em for automatic looking at the table. Queen Park may already be on their hols. Enjoy.
