Or did Cotter randomly launch himself at the deck? Looked nailed on from my seat but the ref was having none of it and even did was berating cotter
What about the worldy save just before half time and the ref gave a goal kick ? If I was the keeper I’d have chased him down and said oi I saved that chuffer
He definitely kicked Barry in the shin. It wasn’t enough to knock him off his feet, but VAR would have given it.
It was hard to tell how much contact there was but I think he went down so dramatically that the referee assumed it was just a dive
Difficult to see through the bodies from the west stand. I always think, when players go down like Cotter did, surely it should either be a yellow for diving or a pen? I thought there was a hand ball from their defender but haven’t seen any highlights of that so could’ve been wrong.
Yes, definite handball. None of the players appealed for it so I guess it must have been difficult to see except from the West stand.
True, Burton's second 'keeper made a great save. How the ref missed that one I'll never know. Burton fans that I know all said it was a blatant pen and red card.
Couldn't tell clearly, but even if it was theatrics, why go down when you have skillfully given yourself the chance of a tap in. On their keeper, I thought he'd clearly tipped Connell's shot onto the bar, and saved Cotter's onto the bar off his arm. Great stop, IMHO
I hope the ref that day still has nightmares about how incompetent he was. I imagine he’s not in the game any more
The referee was Adam Herczeg and he’s very much still active. Reffed mostly league one and two this season (he did Mk Dons Grimsby yesterday); though he has reffed several championship games. The mind boggles. Mind you Tim Robinson was promoted to the premier league list after the Wembley debacle and he remains at that level with the odd championship game here and there. As for Barry Cotter yesterday - bit of contact, he initiated it as much as the defender, and he threw himself to the floor, arms flailing all over the shop, like an extra from Platoon.
And it was clear from the East Stand as well - only question was whether it bounced up onto the arm from his leg or went straight there. The one on Cotter was stonewall. ( Though not as stonewall as the Burton great save one)
If the Cotter one wasn't a penalty then it was a booking for simulation. It's the inconsistency that drives you mad.
