How long before the current owner/board actually realises there current path isn’t going to work, or there so stubborn to admit there shortcomings it will probably end up us even lower in the football pyramid
Imho...if Conor is given until next Christmas (given the massive summer turnover of players) and still can't get a tune out of the new squad.....I think only then will they start listening and doing something. I hope I'm totally wrong and Conor performs miracles with new players but I feel it will be a long hard new season. .
The more likely outcome is that his dad says no more money and his game of football manager comes to an end. The longer he stays in charge the deeper we seem to get in trouble.
We score enough goals but concede far too many. Sort the defence out and we will be at the top end of the league. It needs focus and a bit of luck, but it’s not all doom and gloom. The atmosphere between club and fans is at a low ebb, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the board get fed up losing money and taking criticism. The challenges and decision making off the pitch are sometimes questionable, and not enough priority is given to fixing simple business aspects like communications, parking, or the club shop. Ultimately though a winning team papers over many cracks, so I think this has to be the short term focus above all else.
The club needs putting up for sale. Nothing is going to get better under Neerav’s ownership. Time for the Crynes to cut ties too. In the meantime the supporters need to strap in & prepare for more hardship, with relegation looking a certainty next season given how poor our squad is & has been for over a year now. League 1 next season will be tough, with plenty of clubs in a better state than we are.
Talking realistically for expectations next season I’d take a top half finish now if offered. No way are we going to be equipped to challenge the top 6 without a major overhaul in squad make up and mentality. Problem is we have a lot of poor players still contracted to the club that we won’t be able to offload. I like what Conor has to say but his record so far has been terrible, culminating in the biggest low of all yesterday. For me he needs an experienced assistant coach for guidance next season. He’s a rookie and is going to need some serious help and most importantly, good recruitment. That’s the main worry with that clown Sormaz still here. If MDG and Max xG are in the starting eleven (or even make the bench) come August I truly despair.
It's mainly fringe players though. Not like last season where our 6 most used players from the season were out of contract. There's only Humphrys really who's played a fair amount of the season who's out of contract. From memory, McCarthy, Benson, Cosgrove, Pines and Flavell. Anyone else who is underperforming will have to be sold before we can replace them in reality. We're now seeing the downside of long term contracts.
I think the penny is starting to drop somewhat and that is why it seems like we are going down the road of letting Hourihane have more control than recent head coaches. I guess the worry is whether he’s a success or failure, when someone replaces him they will also need to be able to control multiple areas. The big thing is obviously player recruitment. We need a dramatic improvement in this regardless of whether it’s Hourihane, Sormaz, Neerav or anyone else making the decisions.
We are a expensive 'train set' if not run properly. Cut everything except the first team. Obviously try to get rid of the dead wood best you can The first team will need investment just to stand still and finish mid table next season.. Plus keep one 'reserve side'.. a mixture of the best of the 18s and 21s.. to form one side... And let the rest go.
