Just wait till next time they are talking about carbon footprints etc and now we are doing pointless stuff like this.
If space has zero gravity so we are led to believe, then surely anyone with long hair would find themselves with their total head of hair floating above their heads and not just a few odd strands here and there....or am I missing something here
Firstly, they're is still gravity at that altitude. I'm not sure why people think their is no gravity when things are orbiting the Earth. The reason astronauts (or space tourists) appear weightless is because they're in free fall. The spacecraft and everything inside it are falling towards Earth, but moving sideways fast enough to keep missing it. This creates what’s known as microgravity—a state where things float because they're all falling together. Long hair does float upwards in microgravity, but not instantly or dramatically like in cartoons. If someone is moving or turning their head, the hair will lag and float around. If they’re very still, only some strands might drift up due to air movement inside the cabin, or static. Microgravity isn’t perfectly even—especially in suborbital flights, which only last a few minutes and include subtle accelerations or small jerks. As a result hair doesn’t always shoot straight up in an anti-gravity fanfare, but given time, no matter how still the person is, eventually the whole head of hair would slowly lift and float around, just as you'd expect.
I watched a programme once where they have the planes that nosedive at a certain angle and it creates microgravity in the plane. They use it to teach would be astronauts how to deal with floating around. Really clever stuff.
As Redstone said, there is gravity but everything is falling at a uniform rate. Interestingly time is affected by gravity - time will pass very marginally slower downstairs in your house than it will upstairs...
I find this all hugely demoralising for several reasons. Mega rich man shoots rockets just about into space for nothing more than ego and folly, irrespective of the damage, and then intertwines himself into some pretty cringe inducing footage as he leers at woman in their tight fitting 'space' costumes. Not good
The time dilation stuff gets fairly mind blowing if you get into it. Because both gravity and speed of travel have an impact. Hence satellites used for GPS being pre corrected the time difference from orbit to the ground.
