Just bumped into Alan Clarke in a pub in Barton on stather. What a great guy has time for everyone. No one in the pub realised who he was till I spotted him. Made my day and still smiling.
Met one of mine last week or so. A principled activist. Put in jail for 2yrs on trumped up charges. One of the last political prisoners. Overturned/Pardoned in 2021 47yrs later. Great comedy/serious actor. Eg The Royle Family Ricky Tomlinson.
Sat with Ronnie Glavin at Wombwell Town v Appleby Frodingham last week. A very modest and thoroughly nice guy.
Was he on a spying mission. Lol ?. I saw him just over a week ago. At Wombwell Town watching his son play for Worsbrough. Wombwell, Dearne and worsbro vying for the play offs. Edit. Worsbro failed to get a spot. Wombwell in with a good chance of the title if Horbury don't win their last game next Saturday. Dearne qualified for play offs.
I still think though, that them being good at their job, is the most important thing for a manager/coach. Remember, its not a personality and popularity contest, is it!.
He follows the Brig when Conor is playing but he was injured last week so Ronnie went to the Wombwell game. Looking likely for Wombwell v Dearne in playoff semi final on 19th April.
But he isn't a manager or a coach, he's just a fan of the local football scene like the rest of us. And he's constantly being approached and always has time for people.
Yeah I can understand that. But don't we often say as fans that a manager or a player is really likeable, which helps of course. But that's not what they are paid to do!.
