Serious question anybody with knowledge of these things let us know .Is it with in reach for the fans to buy the owners out . I ve done the sums to raise 10 million over ten years by just adding it to the season tickets if we can sell 5000 each year and will commit to this.Or I’m I talking ******** after being in the pub all afternoon lol
I can think of lots of things I’d like to own that would preserve or enhance my reputation. Owning a football club isn’t on my list.
With the way the owners are having to fund it, and lack of saleable assets, I'd say next to fook all.
Must be right. The club doesn't own the ground and operations are loss-making, with little future prospect of profit.
The club doesn't own the ground or any assets and technically is insolvent, I suspect the owners would want to recoup a fair chunk of their investment, I wouldn't see the actual purchase the main issue but more so the ongoing running of a loss making organisation. If we are losing currently somewhere between 6-8m a season then over a 5 year period as mentioned you'd need somewhere in the region of £40m just to stay aflot
No, not entirely anyway. At present, the board are putting millions in. It isn't a quick fix to make us sustainable again, and certainly won't happen whilst we're at this level. For all of their faults, they have skills and connections which our fan base simply don't have. Who's going to plug the gap when ultimately a fan led board votes us not to sell any if our best players every transfer window.
The Club isn’t worth anything. The owners are underwriting around £6m a season to keep it running. It’s the running costs you would need to cover. So you would need to increase ST prices by about £1000 each if you’re basing your numbers on 5000 STs. So right now I would say no, it’s not within reach.
A few points on value and fan ownership. 1. The club has zero worth. Minimal assets, loss making. The Cryne family hold their 20 odd percent holding through Oakwell Holdings and they book the value of their £4.15m investment at £1. The value of a business is not impacted by how much someone has invested. 2. In current state any buyer would need a minimum of £15m, not to buy the club, but to get it through the next few years. Wages need to reduce from the current £9m to more like £5m max. That’s going to take time as contracts expire. To be sustainable the club may need to go backwards to establish a solid base. This could be painful in the short term but transparency with fans would certainly help. 3. Fan ownership doesn’t mean fans vote on every matter. Just like holding shares in a business the appointed executive run the club. This is how Hearts and Exeter operate.
It’s a well known fact that the way to make a small fortune out of owning a football club is to start with a large fortune.
As posted by others, you’d need at least 3 years worth of operating money too, to have it ratified by the EFL. So it’s a big investment. Anybody saying sack the board - are essentially saying close the club today and lock the gates. The board are the owners. And the owners are putting the money in. I fully agree with Point 2, and think that’s why we are where we are. Yes we spent on DKD, but other than that, the money isn’t there for big signings. We can do some big wages, but not too many. DKD, Benson, Connell, Pines, Humphries and Roberts will be on big wages I’d guess. You’ve probably got the best part of £750k in wages on Pines and Benson alone - when you factor in NI contributions and other bonuses etc I’d say. And both are not in the starting XI. We’ll be ok - we just need to ride out the 12months I think. We’re not the only club with these issues.
Which even at a very conservative estimate of £5 million a year is a huge ask. £1500 per season ticket holder. It's not remotely realistic, even if a few more affluent fans were able to stump up £5k to £10k each. But realistically there won't be too many who could afford to do that even if they wanted to. Plus the fact that quite a few season tickets are all from one family. So I'd be looking at £3k. I'm pretty sure my missus would love to know exactly why I'd emptied an ISA and hadn't actually bought anything with the proceeds!
And back to the old chestnut recruitment.. That's why, maybe more than ever we need to be a hell of a lot better with our recruitment.. The very little we have must be spent wisely, on the here and now not on future punts and maybes, If nothing else to halt our present decline. Luke Thomas, kane Wilkes Chaplin.. all brought in, cost big money and where expecting to sell on for big bucks.. and boom not a penny made on any. We want to looking at the free transfer market now and planning our summer moves get first teamers in to stop our slide and build from there. We have already conceded 50plus goals this season and are in and around the relegation range of teams seventeen and below in terms of defending.. No need to be an expert on where we need to be looking in the summer.A decent goalie and defenders are vital for next season.
Yeah I'd say impossible for a fans takeover. Your never going to get 5k fans here to cough up 1.5 k to watch 3 division football year on year and maybe lower in future.. instead of slagging the owners off folk ort to be sending em box of chocs and a bunch of flowers..
I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. However I would say it’s virtually impossible to do it at a competitive level, without an Ann Budge type investor. This is what pains me the most about the ‘get out of our Club’ voices. The very stark reality is if they did, the Club would quite probably fold within months. I don’t understand how so many people just don’t get that.
