We didn’t finish the season well really mate. Lost at home to Burton, Ipswich & Posh. That mad game at MK when we drew 4-4, lost 3-1 at Exeter, goalless draw at Lincoln. We had to lift ourselves again for the playoffs.
I thought some of the comments though Fitz, were absolutely ridiculous at the time. Some were acting like we were in the bottom 4, for the M.K Dons match. Yeah its disappointing to see us finish the regular season with a whimper like that, and we also did the same under Val as well. But the bigger picture, the main priority of course (the Play offs), was just around the corner after all.
People always over react, but tbf, we had looked for a spell like we could challenge the automatics, so people were always going to be disappointed, especially after we’d beat some of the top teams. You’re right, we had the play offs to fall back on, but the worry was that we had little momentum going in there. The mood at MK was strange. Even when we pulled the scoreline around it was still a bit flat.
I also think he’s been treated pretty harshly at Huddersfield and dealt a tough hand. He will have a point to prove. suspect he will be unlikely to jump ship second time around if we start to see some success. the world moves fast in football. They should be trying to get this wrapped up this week before they miss the opportunity
Not a chance in my opinion, unless Duff decides to wipe his compensation package from Huddersfield. Can you see that happening?
To be fair Norwood never lasted a full 90 so the running he did 2nd half when we had 10 men wouldn't have happened.
The occasion may have brought it out of him. We may have been 3 up. We'll never know of course, but surely you start your strongest 11 in such a big game.
Signed on a 3 year deal 10 months ago. I just can't see us being able to afford paying whatever up front for him to accept us when the board said sacking Collins when we did set us back substantially mate. Especially since we will be paying Clarke off as well
None of us will know but it generally involves still be being paid monthly rather than a huge lump sum up front - and what he gets can and will likely be affected by earnings he may get by taking another job. I don’t think it likely he’d come back here - but we’d be fools to not try.
Fingers crossed mate. I wouldnt just bring Duff in straight away, but if it was a choice between him and Clarke, I'd certainly take Duff. Duff with Collins' ability to win when going behind first would be even better..!
Exactly, bud. The only way I think it would be possible is if we'd pay him a lump sum to forfeit his Huddersfield compensation, but then we'd be paying his wages (which i imagine will be decent) whilst also paying off Clarke. Just can't see it but who knows.
That's why I suspect, with the season already pretty much dead, we'll wait til the summer. Wouldn't surprise me if we'd approached him already. Clarke may well have some sort of severance clause in his contract if we don't reach the top 6, so it makes sense all round. Duff will probably say he's keeping his options open, although realistically he's not likely to get a job any higher than top end League 1. He'll probably ask for assurances from the board about at least reasonable financial backing. That gives them a couple of months to get their ducks in a row and decide whether they're serious about getting out of this league any time soon. Personally, I think lack of season tickets sold will force their hand.
Ye i dont think tedic was that good if he had the same ability and came through our academy chances are he wouldn't have got played as much. Norwoods best minutes in a barnsley shirt were at Wembley.
There's no way Duff or any decent manager would come to us when they don't have involvement of transfers... Only a lower league desperate Manager would come hence Clarke
