Duff wasn't a failure, but he did fail to get us promoted in those Play offs. There is a big difference!.
I agree it rarely ever works for managers and players when they go back to a former club. But if there was that chance of him coming back here, then I'd take it. Clarke's at the end of the road now though isn't he, surely!.
Yeah but I think its more a case of him at least being better than what we currently have. Clarke's time is up I'm afraid, maybe before the season ends. But by then, Duff will probably be somewhere else anyway.
Can we really say that ultimately cost us promotion though. It wasn't just down to that, why we lost at Wembley.
No, obviously we can't. But I think that we would have scored first, which we needed to in order to have any chance of winning.
I’m not sure it’s fair to say he’s failed. More like he’s been denied his chance to succeed, by losing his job with 30 points still to play for. ‘Failing’ might be a bit more accurate, but we’ll never know now.
sorry don’t agree , we shouldn’t be looking to appoint a manager on that basis , we should be looking to be forward thinking and he carries too much baggage now. Plus if we went for a manager on that basis and he failed the board would get absolutely pilloried.
I understand that, but why then do we keep saying that about our players as well ?. Like with Victor for example, "he might be poor etc, but at least he'd be better than what we currently have". And yeah, its not exactly a compliment in saying that, and its not a great reason to bring them back.
I rated duff. But let’s be right he had some really good players, better than either Collins or Clarke.
But duff is the type of coach we need, a people head coach manager. Players improved under duff but players have gone backwards under Clarke.
To add a little perspective. A club also that has had 100s of £millions thrown at em in the last 6/7 yrs. Premiership. Parachute. Solidarity. Etc etc. Yet will more than likely will be in the same division as us next season. As for Duff. It leaves a little nasty taste for me. (Thought same about Danny tbf) Here for the long haul bo11ox. Difference in Distance was fekk all to call owt. 1hr each way once a week. And did he not turn us down afore Clarke was appointed.
I'd have him back. I was very disappointed when he jumped ship after promising he was in for the "long haul" but let's face it, who wouldn't do what he did when offered the sort of money we simply can't offer?
I haven't wanted Clarke out so far this season, but there are no more excuses for him I'm afraid. And seeing as he probably won't leave, it will surely be the sack eventually. Then we start all over again, wondering who would or wouldn't take this job. And that now maybe includes Duff again.
It happens though Hook, and we're not the only club to have suffered this of course. Wilson said similar didn't he, and I think it made it harder with him leaving later on in the summer. However, to those that criticise people for leaving a job, for a better job somewhere else with better pay and better prospects etc... I ask wouldn't we all have done the same ?.
I doubt he is likely to come back to us anyway mate, but let’s be r8 here and I don’t know you but from your postings you’ve worked at pit then elsewhere (water board I think mate), so when you were interviewed for ya next job I am sure you gave all the correct answers like you committed to cause and such because that’s what we’ve all done when changing jobs and being interviewed. But if someone comes along and offers you 3/4/5 times more money to work for them then that bit of loyalty tends to go out the window lol.....come on Hookey let’s be r8 here would you have turned down massive increases in pay to like you think Duff should’ve?.......there’s no loyalty in all walks of life when money is concerned mate
Absolutely mate. But I wouldn't have said what he did. Neither what Danny said. It was unnecessary. It'll not stop me watching tarn. But as I say Makes me think less of him as a person.
