...what would you go and see? On a BFC level I'd go and re-experience the Bradford promotion match. On a non-BFC level I'd like to go and watch the battle of Hastings. There's a few others I could mention...
England winning the World Cup in ‘66. Before I was born but what a time that would have been to be alive. And the music scene, of that era, still holds strong to this day too.
During lifetime Liverpool v Barnsley 1982. Afore lifetime. Shut it Jud. Barnsley v West Brom 1912. FA cup final
4 June 1976 Lesser Free Trade Hall Sex Pistols on stage and a few scatterings in audience of future punk legends
By coincidence, I actually watched that on YouTube just last night. I didn’t search it, it just came up on suggestions. First time I have seen it since watching live on tv as a 9 year old music mad kid. And, until the Bohemian Rhapsody film came out, I am not sure if it was common knowledge that the band had technically split up when Freddie begged them to play Live Aid.
I watched the final in the ymca cafe I was the only one there obviously no public showings pubs etc so I can’t recall a great deal of interest in places like Barnsley
Reds. I'd revisit any match, with my Uncle Pete, 80 - 83, and thank him properly for taking me and getting the bug. He's in a dementia home now, barely 70, and wouldn't recognise me. Away from football, I think I'd like to spend some time at the old mansion I used to bang on about, in its glory, 1870s.
1912 FA Cup final replay League cup tie at Anfield 1982, would like to be there for the kick off though not 15 mins into 2nd half as happened on the night, although being there for the last half hour of the game was worth it.
Assuming I had the ability to go back at my own leisure: I’d like to drop in on Egypt during the construction of the pyramids. Similarly, Stonehenge. I’d love to know how they were actually constructed. I’d drop in on the Middle East during Jesus’ life, see how legit that period is. For obvious reasons, I would like to enjoy the 1912 cup final replay. And to watch whatever game is seen as Ronnie Glavin’s best, so I can see whether he was better than Craig Hignett. And to the aftermath of Wembley 2023, to try and ensure I went ahead with my decision to leave my job and not bottle it. Although I think that’s when you start risking the fabric of time isn’t it? All that jazz. Otherwise you’d be trying to stop allsorts of mad stuff and completely rewriting history. And finally, I’d go see my parents’ respective final moments and say goodbye (as I never got that opportunity). Great thread by the way.
I'd be way too scared and useless in real life, but I'd love to go back in time and be with Shackleton in the antartic or with Magellan circling the globe . Definitely would want to be there in 1912 to see us win the FA cup.
New series on telly soon DJB, let's see what they think. good to see YT choose summat that weren't music or sport. So, London 1888 to see who Jack the Ripper really was. Dallas 1963 to see if Oswald really acted alone. The building of the Pyramids, Stonehenge, Machu Piccu and various other unexplained building feats. Did Richard the third actually murder the Princes in the Tower. And the 1912 FA cup final replay...
Depends on the rules. Am I just a safe observer? If possible safely I'd like tonsee the big bang. And to know if that was where the formation of time as we understand it happened. Seeing the moon and early solar system form. The first life forming on Earth. Lots of unknowns that would be amazing to find the answers to.
